I Run the Schedule

img_5231The parentals may think they rule the roost in the Dopart-Batchelor house but secretly it is I PERRY who dictates what happens here.  The only thing I have not been able to control lately is the rain and there’s been a LOT of it.  Dad even had to go in the back yard with his high boots to wade through it all.  I was smart enough to stay in the house  – that’s what we Weims are known for – that we are smarter than our owners.

So here’s what I do:  6 am if the parentals are not up I start to scratch and itch so they can hear the ching-ching of my collar.  If that doesn’t get them up I go to Dad’s side of the bed first and then Mom’s side.  Eventually one of them gets up so we can all get started on our routine.

img_5721I’ve trained them to put on the little space heaters in the dining room and bathroom so I can go from heater to heater to soak up all the warmth in the house.  You may remember I don’t have much hair and am prone to chills more than other canines – can’t imagine what my friends in Germany do but glad I’m not one of them.

I did rise to nursing status this week when Dad had a colonoscopy – he was sad and cold so I laid on the floor with him to help him feel better but it seemed to take a long time.  Thank goodness canines don’t have to have cancer prevention procedures like that!

Anyway, Mom is busy with her Motivational Interviewing trainings and the new book on diabetes which will hopefully go to print this month. I know it will help a lot of people with their health.  My health is fine since I eat my broccoli every day and Mom gives me my probiotic and fish oil all at breakfast – that’s also part of the schedule but that one I don’t have to worry about controlling .

Hope you are all having a good year so far and I’ll check in again soon. If you all watched the Superbowl today I hope your team won and you ate some healthy food.

Love,

My Christmas Guest

img_5634It’s been a busy month around our house with food testing, and doing “year end” things as Dad calls them. It seems like it’s always about food in our house which is A-OK by me.

Last week we had a little furry visitor named Viva. You may recall she came two years ago for the Christmas holiday. I couldn’t help myself but I was a little cold the first day as I had to share my toys, my bed, my favorite chair AND the parentals.

However, I did warm up to having her around since there were extra toys to play with, more walks and treats. She did have this wonderful habit of leaving her food in her bowl which I’ve never even thought of doing.  I tried to eat her food but unfortunately Mom watched the whole time so I could not even sneak a bite.

I thought she was trying to take over but on the second evening she actually put her paw on mine trying to show her appreciation – it was very sweet.

When it came time for Viva to leave, Mom was beyond surprised that I whined a little bit that my lady friend was leaving, but then life changed and I was on to the next adventure.  Thanks to all for following my blog this year and let’s hope the New Year will bring more love, treats and peace to all man and caninekind.

The weather has been pretty cold for LA and it’s actually been raining – a phenomena we rarely experience here.

Hello Holiday People!

img_5431Yep, I am slowly getting into the mood of the holidays even with getting a late start. First the parental units decided to explore India and I did NOT get to go. They sent me to camp which meant no Thanksgiving treats. So I am late to the party of healthy holiday snacks.

Mom and Dad decided to go on a research outing that consisted of cultural adventure and vegetarian eating. They are currently working on a new cookbook and wanted to research spices, ideas for recipes and diversity to peoples eating choices on this side of the world.

That’s OK cause I am not really into vegetarian food unless it has broccoli in it as the crowns are my favorite.

However, I was a little jealous when I heard about all of the animals especially the dogs. I overheard Mom talk about one friendly dog where they stayed that would follow her around in the morning.  She was bragging that he was not even on a leash and just went where she went. What! Someone moving in on my property!  I was not happy about that.

fullsizerenderI also heard that most of the animals roam around like people without being tethered to anything. Maybe I should go to India since the animals seem to be the bosses – that would be the ultimate holiday gift!

And…there was a dog on one of their flights. Now that would have made me crazy to have to hold it that long so it’s probably better I stayed home.  24 hours of travel would have been a bit much both ways but then again I would have loved to roam the aisles of Air France eating all the leftovers from everyone who did not want their meal.

The one highlight upon coming home is there is a new puppy in our neighborhood – she’s a 10 week old Great Dane and Mom and I got to play with her on our walks the last 2 days. Hmm – maybe I can coax Dad into getting me a puppy for Christmas.

Election Stress Disorder?

img_5167Yes, folks this is a REAL thing – I even heard it on CNN.  Dr. Heather Silvestri was being interviewed by @alisynCamerota on @NewDay and I realized why I’ve been MIA.

She suggested we take a #socialmediabreak so that’s what I’ve been doing the last few weeks.  I’m not sure it’s helped much but at least I’m not hearing the arguing from the #PresidentalDebates.

Instead, I made my appearance last week at Mom’s Motivational Interviewing trainings and it helped her with helping the participants be at ease.  After all, it is stressful trying to learn a new language – at least for others.  I only know dog speak and that’s good enough for me. The one exception is when the Parentals make me mind – then I share my grunting which they equate to sassing.

The parentals have been busy with Thanksgiving cards for clients and I’ve been staying clear of all those envelopes so I don’t make a further mess of the living room.

Although it is SUPPOSED to be fall we’ve been having summer weather in Santa Monica with high’s in the 80’s.

Let’s all pray for cooler weather and calm for our country.

Peace!

My Whirlwind Weekend

img_5068You can tell Fall has crept into Los Angeles. It is chillier in the morning and darker and Mom is happy that I’m sleeping in a little more.

Mom and I have been hanging out this weekend.  We went on an outing to see another Peri, but his one was human AND pretty.  I was hip to meet someone who almost has my name and she was thrilled to meet me too – but of course.  My only complaint was that I did NOT get a mani/pedi but I sure tried my hardest putting the charm on.  I’m not sure how color would look on my nails but I was hip to try.

We also went on a great walk…yes I still have issues with my heavy “leading” AKA “pulling.” Mom did not bring her walking sticks, which are a new thing around the house. I am wondering how she is going to walk with her new sticks AND me at the same time.

OK, the sticks are these things I have been warned not to touch. I mean come on – it’s not a magic broom. I know Halloween is coming up and that dreaded costume Dad makes me wear outside. No- these sticks are for walking, and Mom says the studies show using the sticks increase upper body strength and burn almost 30% more calories than just walking, as well as helping to reduce heart disease.

I don’t know about these studies since I burn plenty of calories just running around and my muscle mass is just fine as well as my cholesterol, thank you very much!

The best news around the Dopart-Batchelor house is the continued spring cleaning going on AND maybe that ugly Halloween costume got into the donation box.  That would be just about the best news of the season!

How’s That WALL working OUT?

fullsizerenderAs you can see that Trump Wall concept really didn’t work out. But then again, from this advantage point I can look out for Hillary to see if she is having any substantial press conferences. All I can gather is politics are more dysfunctional than the neighbor’s dog and my relationship, which is extremely cantankerous.

gabbsI did have a few visitors. The Gabbs came over to see me and give me the proper attention and affections I so require – there are 5 of them, although only 4 came but there was enough loves, hugs and pets to last for a while.  As you can see, I was trying to be non-photogenic.

As for our family we continue to go through closets, drawers, and cabinets…we are cleaning out items. I even had to go through my toy box to give away some of my toys. Life is just too important to be anchored to your stuff.

The weather is starting to cool down a little bit and as the daylight fades faster into darkness, fall is upon us. We are very blessed and thankful to all of you out there.

Love and Peace!

The Unwelcome Visitors

FullSizeRenderIt sure has been WARM this weekend. No matter where I try to lay down I am very hot. Even under the bed. Some El Nino!

Last weekend Dad was out-of-town so I got to go to the country and play. I love being able to run around and check out all the other dogs and sights on the farm. Maybe the parental will have a small farm for me some day. Then they can have their range free organic eggs, a big garden of healthy green vegetables and of course the little baby goats.

This last week was not without drama. I got into or actually avoided trouble. A few nights ago it was hotter than usual when I went outside before bed. As I perused the yard I realized there were some interesting visitors hanging out on our fence and it was not the squirrel or the possums from the past.

Of course I started barking up a storm, which sent Dad running out. Yes, this was at 10 PM on a school night so we all know how drawing unnecessary attention is not welcomed here at Casa de Perry. But People – it was NECESSARY! You see there were two raccoons on the fence. Not one but TWO and that increased my odds of getting one. However, that is not how it went down. Dad the downer had to get up in my situation, which made me go crazy trying to crawl up the fence.

I saw that I had done a great job at knocking the baby off. He was hanging on and then the Mom got a little testy and started to crawl down the fence in my direction.

This sort of thing just gets the adrenaline pumping but mine was not the only one. Dad was furious and took his shoe off to try to correct the situation and prevent a fight. Now that was pretty stupid because that area of the yard is where I do my evening routine.

Needless to say, Mom got involved and got me to come in the house. Still after I was locked away from the fluffy intruder I went postal pacing to and fro. That of course was not well received and Mom put me in my crate for the night.

I did not forget the visitors and as soon as I was let out that morning I went to the fence but unfortunately were gone. Bummer deal.

BTW – if you have extra ice please bring some to our Casa.   I’m rooting for air conditioning next year but I might have to get a job for that one.

Trump Wall has NOTHING on ME!

FullSizeRenderTrump has nothing on MY Wall!

Yes folks it is sad to say that “The Dad” decided my nonexistent “Love thy Neighbor” actions were not sufficient for this house.

Now wait, before all of you get your shorts bunched up like a political convention, hear me out.  No one hacked into my fan base or stole a speech. Worse yet we didn’t have an obnoxious parade of balloons for this wall.

This wall of chairs is to keep me from damaging the wall. I know it sounds pretty bad but let me explain myself.

Next store is this little, for lack of words ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ sort of creature. I could take him out if the Parental’s would allow but we all know that is not an option…sad face emoji.

Well every time that PITA goes out he comes real close to my house, barks at me, and has the audacity to relieve himself on MY bush. This behavior MAKES ME CRAZY PEOPLE!

IMG_4863I guess I really didn’t realize how postal I was becoming. It was not a pretty scene at all. Now we have “The Wall” and back to more training. Does this learning ever stop? At least I know that the row of chairs just drives Dad crazy…

Perry 1 – Dad 0

On a more serious note, wall or not, our wonderful friends from Italy, Antonella and Francesco, who have tried to gain legal citizenship for the least 2 years, are having to leave. They need to wait another two years in hopes of getting an opportunity to come back to the US legally. Very sad but we can always FaceTime them.  The good news is Dad did make some great food for their departing lunch and of course I had some great scooby snacks that day.

It has been VERY hot in our 100 year old house but Dad finally bought a swamp cooler so we are all a bit more comfortable.

A Visit from the Cousins

IMG_4737We got a visit from the NJ Twin Cousins Drew and Coulston.  They were in Los Angeles to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum at UCLA and then came to visit us afterward.

Dad drove them to see Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara to see if those were colleges they might be interested in.  What?  Dad took a road trip with the cousins that I was not invited to – that was not so hospitable.

I did get some extra hugs and loves but they were hardly sufficient given their short time here.

It’s been quite warm here in Santa Monica so Dad’s taken to putting fans all over the house – maybe one day we’ll actually get air conditioning in our 100 year old house.

Until next time!

Love

Election and Summer Craziness

IMG_3126Everyone is in an uproar about the election and it is just too ugly to comment on so I will not go there. I will stay in my safe place as so many millennials require.

Today was a good ole fashion lazy day. We all went for a walk and I was very happy. The family has been busy and we have not had any “family” time so I was a happy dog. The day got better as Dad prepared a fun lunch for Auntie Chris. I got to lay outside and enjoy the day.

When the sun came out in full the Parental’s decided to give me a bath and I loved it. I have been itching a lot lately, as I have so many allergies.

I heard that we are going to have some houseguests this summer which makes me even happier since I will be annoying and try and get into the guest room. The twin cousins from New Jersey are coming out here and Dad is taking them to a few potential colleges. I did hear something about a road trip with all of them but I won’t get my hopes up. I hear the Grandunit Batchelors are coming this summer as well which makes me happy as we know I LOVE company!

Maybe all of you should come for a visit. Since the parental’s are having #TheYearofTraveling maybe we should have #SummerVacationwithPerry.
