The Unwelcome Visitors

FullSizeRenderIt sure has been WARM this weekend. No matter where I try to lay down I am very hot. Even under the bed. Some El Nino!

Last weekend Dad was out-of-town so I got to go to the country and play. I love being able to run around and check out all the other dogs and sights on the farm. Maybe the parental will have a small farm for me some day. Then they can have their range free organic eggs, a big garden of healthy green vegetables and of course the little baby goats.

This last week was not without drama. I got into or actually avoided trouble. A few nights ago it was hotter than usual when I went outside before bed. As I perused the yard I realized there were some interesting visitors hanging out on our fence and it was not the squirrel or the possums from the past.

Of course I started barking up a storm, which sent Dad running out. Yes, this was at 10 PM on a school night so we all know how drawing unnecessary attention is not welcomed here at Casa de Perry. But People – it was NECESSARY! You see there were two raccoons on the fence. Not one but TWO and that increased my odds of getting one. However, that is not how it went down. Dad the downer had to get up in my situation, which made me go crazy trying to crawl up the fence.

I saw that I had done a great job at knocking the baby off. He was hanging on and then the Mom got a little testy and started to crawl down the fence in my direction.

This sort of thing just gets the adrenaline pumping but mine was not the only one. Dad was furious and took his shoe off to try to correct the situation and prevent a fight. Now that was pretty stupid because that area of the yard is where I do my evening routine.

Needless to say, Mom got involved and got me to come in the house. Still after I was locked away from the fluffy intruder I went postal pacing to and fro. That of course was not well received and Mom put me in my crate for the night.

I did not forget the visitors and as soon as I was let out that morning I went to the fence but unfortunately were gone. Bummer deal.

BTW – if you have extra ice please bring some to our Casa.   I’m rooting for air conditioning next year but I might have to get a job for that one.

Happy New Year!

IMG_2987Once again within a blink of an eye 2015 is a memory and 2016 brings forth new adventures with my pack, the parentals.

We finished off the year with a family road trip to San Luis Obispo for some relaxation. However, it was challenging as Dad was sick and took my spot in the front seat. That’s OK, since I whined a lot to keep up with their conversation. It was a long time in the car and I wanted to get there sooner than later.

Mom took me on all my morning walks and I was greeted by my SLO friends and even got to hang out with some of the horses. It was awesome time in the country.

On one of the days Mom and Dad went to Cambria to celebrate what they did 10 years ago when they got engaged, but of course I did NOT get to go. Oh the sappiness in my family. However, this time it was OK since I got to go to Thousand Hills Pet Resort and they are always excited to see me. I played with 2 big Doberman pinscher’s who kept me on my toes.

Dad was excited since he was also able to go to Linn’s restaurant and have a piece of his favorite Olallieberry buttercream cake for a belated birthday.

All in all it was a great trip. On the way home I did share with the parental’s my feelings of not being in the front seat with both of them with a cacophony of whines. That did not go over well and heard mention of being in a crate in the future. That would really cramp my style.

The year ended with all of us in bed by 9:30 for slumber, as it has been very cold here for Santa Monica. I stirred a little at midnight when all the fireworks went off but quickly returned back to sleep, in my taco bed, which keeps me toasty.

Today is supposed to be a fresh start but I figure every morning should be a new beginning. Be kind to all people as you do not know the impact of your benevolence, cherish the important things in life such as health and loved ones, and finally, always live life as an adventure as you never want to pass up an opportunity to learn.

Happy 2016 People!

It’s about Mom this Week

photoUnfortunately this week is NOT about me.  Dad says it’s a nice change in the Dopart-Batchelor house since I may become too narcissistic.

Isn’t that what dogs are all about?  I’m not sure he knows this so maybe I just need to reinforce how the household works.  Maybe if I sulk here with the Mama Tooter blanket someone will feel sorry for me.

Mom redid her website and it’s all brand new.  The only reason she even knew how to navigate word press is because of my blog, but no one’s mentioning that.

So I guess I have to advertise for her this week.  If you want to take a look it’s actually pretty cool and much more complicated than my site.  If you want to know anything about nutrition and health here’s the place to go, but IF you just happen to want to know more about me, dogs, and dog nutrition just stay on my page.

The weather in Santa Monica this week is nothing to brag about – it seems to have reverted to June Gloom, although the sun is peeking out right now and it’s 73 degrees.  Much more next week my peeps!

Here’s to love and world peace!

“Naked” Food?

photoMom went to the Natural Foods Expo West last week and got lots of treats for Dad and finally I got to try one of MY treats.  It’s called “I and love and you” dog food.

What an odd name but all I have to say is I LOVE IT!

It says it’s nude food since it has no additives, preservatives, and the one I tasted was made from grass-fed meat, something Mom is always talking about so I guess now I know why she likes it!  She also told Dad it has no GMO’s whatever that means.

They let me have a free go at it and then took it away – so NOT fair!   I even sat and waited patiently hoping they would notice how good I was being.  Finally Mom noticed gave me some extra since I had already had my dinner.  Why not more?  I can always eat since I’m a foodie.

After all,  I don’t write this healthy eating puppy blog for nothing!  I’m always up for a snack and since Mom only lets me eat healthy treats and food I’m happy when I find one that really suits my fancy and this one sure fit the bill.

Maybe I’ll get to try another of the new treats tomorrow since after all, it is St. Patrick’s Day.  I think I’m too big to go to Aunt Chris’ party this year since I’m about 60 pounds more than last year but maybe Auntie Chris will send some scoobie snacks home for me.

I’m the King of the Chairs

Let’s face it – I like to be in charge – in charge of the house, where I sit, and my food.  Mom and Dad think they are in charge but it’s just a figment of their imaginations.  Mom had a long day and Dad was at school so I just decided to consume her entire evening and get into everything.  The highlight of the night was when part of the sheet rock in the ceiling came tumbling down and I tried to eat it.

Mom ran after me to get it and unfortunately caught up with me.  After that she put me in my crate till Dad got home.  I guess we need home repairs but I think I’m eating up the budget with my huge appetite!

Mother’s Day had LOTS of Action

It’s been a busy day – Dad had me go out and search for a Mother’s Day Card for Mom and I finally found one and here I am bringing it to her in the early hours of the morning.

Dad had to go to work today and Mom had to work at home so I got a BIG treat she’s been saving  –  a MOO! Bully Stick that’s made of grass-fed meat – gives me more of the omega 3’s I love so much.  It is a great babysitter for me while she’s getting some work done.

However, what Mom did not realize is an expected visitor was going to show up to play with me and he was so nice.  We thought he had lost his home so Mom called Santa Monica animal control and they came in 5 minutes.  Little did she know it was the neighbors’ dog Kojo.

He just wandered over since he knew I needed some play time – I guess we’ll have to invite him back since Mom knows who he is now….

They call me MISCHEVIOUS

I know where I’m supposed to be and what to do but I know have options – I can behave and the house will be calm and boring. OR I can go where I know I’m not allowed and pick up things I’m not supposed to and Mom and Dad will run after me or chase me off the furniture – it’s SO much more fun!

Yesterday I took Mom’s underwear and ran in the back yard – both Mom and Dad were trying to get me and I just ran around and around till they gave up. Eventually Mom got her underwear back.  Today I decided it was “couch” time – so I jumped up on the couch.  I know I can go to the comfy chair but it’s just no fun since I’m already allowed there.

This afternoon I decided to take one of Dad’s plants out of the pot and run around the yard with the pot.  Dad had to lay down since he had a headache.  Maybe I’m tiring them out too much.  I’d better behave tonight or else dinner may be late.  They have to remember I’m just a puppy but I guess I have to remember they are not spring chickens…

First Official Puppy Bath

Dad was complaining for a “month of Sundays” as he frequently says that I smell.  Can you believe it?  I don’t think I smell but I finally made him give me a bath to stop his whining.  I was well-behaved and took it like a trooper.

However, I decided since I was good I would officially take over the chair where he frequently sits.  After all – I’m king of the house!

Perry Graduates from Puppy Kindergarten

It was such a fun day and Mom and Dad decided to give me a special new treat for my graduation.  Since I’m not allowed to go to a steak house yet, Mom gave me some Z-Filets from Zuke’s that she got at the Food Show she went to a month ago. Boy, I sure loved them.  They are tasty and I wanted to eat the whole pack.  Mom especially liked them since they are high in protein and have few ingredients – Dad calls her the protein woman.

At Kindergarten today I was such a good dog and played nice with all my friends – Primrose, Oliver, Mochi, Fred, and Ginger.  I will miss them but hopefully I’ll get to see them in Puppy Kindergarten 2.   When I got home, I was so excited I needed to be tethered for a time out and I decided to show them.  I chewed through my brand new Aspen pet premier dog leash.  Mom was pretty upset at me and told me I better not chew through my 30 foot training leash she bought me.

I got another time out tonight so you know what I did when I was good and finally got out?  I decided to rip my bedding out of my crate and show them whose boss cause I’m the Puppy of the House!  Maybe tomorrow I’ll be good and get some more treats!
