The Big Red Truck

IMG_2001The last few weeks I talked about how HOT it was here in Santa Monica….well Casa de Perry has put a new meaning to HOT and it is not flattering but more of parental unit embarrassment.

Yep that’s right folks my Father decided it would be OK to create a recipe with a cast iron skillet. You know where I am going with this don’t you?

The next thing you know the alarm is going off and Dad is flagging this thing on the ceiling and opening up windows. I just looked up and ignored the fan fare.

Life resumed to normal until we heard the sirens.  Since we live in LA it is nothing to hear these cacophony of sounds. However, it kept getting closer and closer…so close in fact it was in the front of the house.  A BIG RED TRUCK in front of our house – HOW FASCINATING!

Next I hear Mom tell Dad that he needed to deal with this. I watched him go outside and have to tell the Big Red truck it was a false alarm.

IMG_1998Oh the pure joy of watching Dad be embarrassed…

Pery 1 – Parental Unit ZERO, oh that should be Dad ZERO

And it’s been a very pleasant 70 degrees in Santa Monica today, so no fires to report on today!

BTW – in case you missed it it was National Puppy Day this week and MY baby picture got lots of likes on Facebook as it should.  I’m posting that picture here just in case you missed it.

News Report from Santa Monica

IMG_9552Hello People!

What a crazy week and boy am I glad it is over. So many things happened and I want to share it all so I will try to be brief.

The weather in Santa Monica was so hot, it broke records and it made me crazy. I am blessed that I have no hair compared to other canines but this was even a bit much for me.

It was especially challenging this week because I had to spend extra time at my club while the parentals worked away. Little did they know I just lounged and did not exert myself too much until I got home, and then expected Dad to play with me.

It’s mostly Mom’s fault since she had to do a Motivational Interviewing Workshop in Long Beach for Memorial Care and Dad went with her so I was at my club for 11 hours and that made me crazy. I let Dad know once we got into the house by running and grabbing him to come outside and play.

On a serious note the Boles fire in Weed California this last week was very sad and lots of people lost their homes, churches, and businesses.  I know I am narcissistic so my little whines are nothing compared to these people’s tragedies. Please continue to pray for the victims and donate to help. They have nothing left but it is a strong community and they will endure.

However, that brings us to this weekend, which was totally awesome. There was a moment of time out as I was not as perfect as I should be.

The parental units are now recipe testing, and you know what that means? Yeah to more scooby snacks! I get way excited when I see food come into the house.

This weekend was really fun because cousin Barbara came over to help and she brought me a gift from “Mama Tooter.” But before I could have my gift I got into trouble because I chewed on the cousin’s purse while she had it on. Come on she was not giving me sufficient attention and I was selfish. I did get a long time out so I guess I had better be on my bestest behavior the next time she comes.

IMG_9617But, then I got let out and was good and got my cool gift. And guess what it was? My very own handmade afghan made with love. I know it is the bomb because I heard the parental units admire the color and wanted it for themselves, especially since I always steal the one that was made for them.

Rest assured that was not going to happen as I took control of the situation. I would not let them even help me untie it. I took off and ran around the yard with it in my mouth for a while so they would know not to take it away.

Also, my little buddy Zade came over to hang out today. I just love him…he has that new baby smell still …maybe I will even share my blankie with him, but that remains to be seen.  I’m a bit jealous since the parentals got asked to be his godparents but I guess I’ll have to get over myself since it means I will have a little playmate as he gets older.

OK, stay out of trouble or at least don’t get caught like I did.

Love,

Perry the Troublemaker

Merry Christmas People…

photo-3Tis the season to be Jolly – at least that is what I am hearing lately.  I find it a season of good treats and extra pets.  As with all of my weekly adventures, Mom and Dad have kept me busy and out in public, which I LOVE.

We had an important meeting with a top couture designer in Santa Monica, Hanna Hartnell, who made Mom’s wedding dress and is now making warm clothes for all breeds of dogs, large and small.  Since I am big and am cold a lot of the time I was am the perfect candidate to try to model her new line for dogs.  You know I honed in my modeling skills with the Gluten-free cookie book, A Healthy Baker’s Dozen.

On the way to our appointment, I had to be on my best behavior as we walked through Fred Segal and every one of course checked me out and you all know how much I love that.  My favorite part was when a little fan wanted to give me some love.  I was very good and just let the little girl pull on my ears and play with my short tail.

photo-4Then we met with the designer lady, Hanna and she was of so nice.  She is used to dogs since she has her own named Biscuit who she calls the butler since he shows everyone into her studio.

She has some very tasty treats and as you all know I love good treats.  We tried on a lot of outfits in a variety of colors and patterns and it was pretty cool.  Of course I love making Dad on edge and kept him on his toes.  Here I am showing off the cool velvet neck on each one.  I decided I liked the red one the best and it had a cool green neck to match!

photo-2At the end of the day I was polite and did my best.  Remember Santa is coming in a few short days!  I’m excited since Hanna is making me something warm for my stocking so hopefully I won’t have to wake up the parentals in the middle of the night to cover me up.

OK, I need to get going.  Wishing all of you a wonderful and safe Christmas!

Pre-Thanksgiving Treats!!

photoHello Everyone!

Things are going great…it is a warm autumn and I have been helping the parental units with all of their projects.  We have a very busy house!

However, I get a little confused as they are doing all of these recipes and it is not even Turkey day.  I overheard them talk about getting recipes together for blogs and clients.  It’s all about the Gluten Free up in here.

Then on top of it all I have had to be on my bestest behavior as there are a tons of cards and envelopes lying around and I mean EVERYWHERE.  It is Mom’s annual Thanksgiving Card that she sends out to 1000 people.  Dad took the picture of the office so it is an art project as well.

I have been really good as Mom was creating a gluten free pumpkin bar and we all know how much I LOVE pumpkin.  She had a little bit of pumpkin left over and let me lick the spoon, which made it a little better since we know its ALL about the treats!  The picture is me trying to be good waiting for my pumpkin.

Anyway, the new Gluten Free cookie book is in the final stages and will be out by cyber Monday.  I’m not happy since there is NO paper involved for me to steal and chew on – something about an eBook – silly, right?  However, I cannot wait for all of you to see my recipe and my photos – I had a photo shoot all to myself one day and of course I look like the show dog that I am!

Peace!

Halloween and Me

photo-2So this past week was odd but in a good way.  First Dad told me we needed to get me an outfit for Halloween.  What?  He wants to play dress up with me?  I am NOT into that sort of thing.  The last time he tried to put something on me I was not impressed.  I am not a toy Dad.

Reluctantly I loaded up in the car, which I was excited about and we went shopping.  Now I like a good store that I can cruz around in and this time Dad took me to Katie’s Pet Depot which I LOVE.  Oh the smells, toys and fellow friends.  I got very excited and it was hard to contain myself.

Anyways, he made me try on these odd looking clothes.  It was a hot mess because the sales person had to come over and help being the extra large size that I am.

First they tried to put a skunk costume on me and I vetoed that.  It had pink ears and a tail.  I don’t have a tail so why would I want to Velcro one on?  I hated it so much that I got away from the lady and took off down the aisle.  This only made Dad more furious chasing me with the stupid skunk costume on.  The ears slid off and I looked like I had a skunk beard on my face.

Thank goodness they did not have the Raggedy Andy costume in my size because the red hair thing for my head would have made me CRAZY!

Finally he found a skeleton one that glowed in the dark.  It was challenging with the headpiece but I dealt with it.  My ears kept slipping out and the lady tied it in a bow.  Needless to say I wore Dad out and I had to wear the costume home.  I did not really care as my head hung out the window with a skullcap on.

But the real excitement happened later.  I could hear all these little people outside moving around and I was anxious.  What on earth could be going on?  Next thing I know we were all going on an evening walk…what?  That never happens.

photo-3I cannot even tell you how fun it was walking with all the peoples and kids.  Of course my costume glowed and I was popular as I should be!  All the kids wanted to pet me, and everyone liked my costume except one man who called me a “boney dog.”  I just ignored his comment.

We even went to my friend’s houses across the street Ginger and Snowy and trick or treated.  I got a few snacks and I loved it.

When we got home my Aunt Audrey came by and we had a good time.  I was so tired after my evening out I just fell asleep in my costume.  I had the best time and hopefully we can do that again but not with the costume, since I decided I’m really not a fan, especially the head part.  I heard Dad mentioning Christmas time and if I was not good he might find me a reindeer outfit.  He better not or else…

Back to the Grind!

photoHello People!

Well I survived another week and we are all getting back into the groove of life.  I am missing my vacation, but enjoying all my kitchen time with the parentals as they are working on food and recipes.  I can tell the holidays are in the air because I smell all the good spices.

As always, I am ready for a snack.  Dad was trying a new recipe today for a Thanksgiving blog and I got a treat…you see an egg rolled on to the ground and I was there right away.  Of course my new nickname is Rocky Balboa and I have no idea what that is about.

photo-2Any who, Mom spoke again last week for LA Best Babies on Motivational Interviewing and Dad was finishing up pictures for our gluten free cookie book.  I just like to hang out, and when I think Dad needs a break I start barking to look for PITA and that just makes him crazy.  Let’s just say it gets his attention.

OK, I am tired and need to get going to eat my cooling diet…yep due to my poor immune system I get raw turkey, broccoli and my high in protein dog food called Nutrisca Salmon and Chickpea Recipe.  It sure does make me happy.

Peace!

Perry is SAD for New Jersey Shore

photoSome of my family lives in New Jersey so a little bit of my heart lives there too.  I was sad to hear about how the Jersey shore was hurt.  I was feeling bad about it so I dug through my toy box and found my stuffy from the NJ boardwalk.  I kept it close to me as I was thinking and saying some prayers for the people in NJ.

Otherwise I have been doing fairly OK except I did get into a little bit of trouble this past week.  I’m not really sure what the big deal was?

I snuck on the counter and got the big fancy fluffy role of paper towels (it is so deliciously soft) and took it into my crate and made a big mess.  Then I was feeling a little guilty and Dad was not giving me the attention I require so I went and “lifted” his glasses off the coffee table.

photo-2No I know this makes him go CRAZY so I casually walked up to him with them in my mouth.  I watched the veins pop out in his neck while he yelled “crate.”  I walked slowly down the hall with him in tow and went in my crate amongst the new fluffy VIVA paper towel bed.  I’m not sure why he was upset since I was confessing and he apparently did not receive my confession as well as could be expected.

No worries people since I have him wrapped around my paws.  You see later that afternoon I just snuggled up to him and we took a nap.

My heart and prayers go out to those affected by the fire on the New Jersey boardwalk.

It Was Perry Week

IMG_6380-001It was MY Week!

So we started off the week with my head shots or should I say my body shots since the whole of me was in the pictures.  I know Dad was worried but I’m not sure why…we all know he’s a worry well so I guess that’s it.  Mom stayed for the pictures to help Dad and Uncle Andrew but what the fuss was I’m not sure since I did just fine.  They had all their shots in a matter of minutes.  I know how to look great so when I want to!  See how regal and serious I am and not EVEN touching one of the cookies being the show dog that I am.

Two days later brought more excitement…the Batchelor Grandparents came for a quick visit before they left for the airport to go see my Aunt Wendy and the boys in Atlanta.  I love when they are here as I get to be a little more spoiled then usual.

I did get into a little bit of trouble, as I continually wanted to get into their bedroom in the middle of the night.  It made Dad crazy but then again what does not make him crazy?

Of course my squeak friend the squirrel remains my nemesis and is always taunting me to chase him.  I do lay in wait as I watch him come up to the side windows on the fence and scream at me to come outside.  Mom can’t believe he does this every day.  Lately the PITA has been bold by playing on the back step while I am going postal on the other side of the glass.

As for the rest of the family Mom spoke again for LA Care this week and Dad is organizing some people and I am being “perfect” as usual.  I even helped Mom perfect the Lemon Bars last night for the new cookie book.  Remember I have my own dog cookie and a few of them are unfortunately hidden in the refrigerator.

OK, I need to do backyard patrol to prevent PITA squirrel from trying to take it over.

I’m Laboring on Labor Day with my Cookie Debut

photo-1I can hardly keep my eyes open people!

We all know how much I love consistency and when my schedule gets disrupted I become a little…let’s just say…crazy.

OK, let me do some explaining.

The parentals have been working hard trying out different recipes and creations for a potential future cookbook.  I love this since we have all been in the kitchen working on the Gluten-Free cookies for the new E-book.

It is now apparent that the parent’s work too much because they are always working on projects, and yesterday did NOT include me!

Apparently it was a big cooking day and I was excited because I would be able to be co- captain in the kitchen.  Low and behold I did not have that opportunity since I was sent to my club The Wags Club for a sleepover.  What????!!!

photoI had a rough night, and was up and down and could not settle down since I was not in my own bed.  I was lonely and sad and when Dad came to pick me up this morning and I could not get out of there fast enough.  What was he not thinking?  Leaving me out of all the fun!

All right – I will get to the point.  I have been resting all afternoon and I hear Dad is concerned, as I have to be ready for pictures tomorrow morning.  Mom did make my doggie cookies today and Dad and Uncle Andrew are shooting my picture with my cookie tomorrow – it should be a fun festive day!

That said people I need to get my beauty rest because I want to be ready for my close ups tomorrow.  I guess I will be in fact laboring on Labor Day!

The Weekend Cookie Factory

photoPeople you will not believe what has happened at my house this weekend.  At first I thought it was Christmas and Mom was making cookies for Santa.

The parental units are working on a new short book; it is all about gluten-free healthy cookies.  It seems pretty complicated but the goal is to bring sweets to everyone with healthier alternatives.  I don’t really care all that much except for the last recipe in which I’m featured since it’s a dog cookie with my 2 favorite things – pumpkin and peanut butter – yum!

Mom was in the kitchen for 8 straight hours.  She made 9 of the 13 recipes.  Dad chronicled the entire process for my Facebook fans.  It was a fun day licking up all the crumbs.  What a great life I live!

Some good news to report is the owie on my foot is almost gone.  Those pills the parentals are shoving down my throat must be working.  I have to admit I do feel better and I am pleased to see the happiness on their faces since I’m no longer licking nonstop.

OK, Dad is outside watering and I better make sure he is not getting into trouble like myself.  You see I was a bad boy this weekend and chewed on a lens box and Grandpa Sprawls’ shoeshine brush, but he’s in heaven so he probably does not mind all that much.

One good thing is when I’m bad I know to go into my crate.  I now run to it on command.  Even if the door is shut I can open it and get in.  You see how smart I am.  Dad eventually said he loved me and it made him think of his Grandpa on this Father’s day weekend.  So I guess we’ll all good.
