Zade and Me

IMG_2799Halloween came and went and the count down towards Turkey day is on.

Today godchild Zade came over for his first official Trick or Treat outing. He is now walking or should I say running and I had to pull hard on the leash to keep up with him. He was very cute as he was trying to trade what he had for what a person was trying to give him.  I’m hoping his spirit of giving continues so I can have more treats.

Of course I wore my scary skeleton costume that glows in the dark and yes the people wanted pets and gave me the accolades that I so deserve.  I tried to get out of the dress up thing but Dad said if I wanted to go trick or treating with Zade I had to “participate.”

Mom has been working on her MI stuff. She is going to start doing webinars that will help people continue to learn and brush up on there Motivational Interviewing skills from their home. Great idea…learning about reflective listening all the while wearing your pajamas.

Dad has been busy with long days at work so I have had a chance to go to the club to visit my friends –better than sitting at home since my own company is sometimes boring. However, I can now report I am up to five and half hours by myself not in the crate. I hear them talk about how I am growing up and becoming a big dog.

The weather has been windy in the Santa Monica and the warm temps continue to be in the 80’s so hopefully we will actually have a fall and not just skip to winer.

Oh yeah the time change should be a fun adjustment for the parentals as I am up before the crack of dawn – I figured breakfast now starts at 5 am, right?

Back from my Trip!

IMG_2789It has been a long time People! I almost forgot my writing stuff when I was in the country for a couple of weeks.

You may know that the parental units had a conference in Germany so while they were gone I got a vacation from THEM. It is always nice to be able to run in the country and hang out with my friends. I even lost some weight, showing how even canines can lose weight given the right amount of activity and I don’t even need a FibBit!

Speaking about loss we lost a couple of family members, Grandma Dopart and Aunt Mary within 2 weeks time. This has been a sad time so I have been giving Mom extra snuggles to comfort her.  Mom told me Grandma would always ask how the “puppy” was – little did she realize I am beyond the size of any puppy!

This week I have been doing better with my interior barking at the outside dogs. There was a couple of times that the neighbor dog, Henry, my new nemesis was peeing on my bushes in the front and I did not bark.

Dad was excited and gave me one of the Dental Bones from Mercola, which is not only tasty but healthy for my teeth. Little does he know I am really training him! WINK!  I stole the box off the counter and Mom caught me but I was disappointed there was none left so helpfully they will buy me more.

The weather continues on a schizophrenic course of being hot and humid. Maybe we will not have fall?

OK folks, have a great week and remember to be safe and responsible this Halloween. I am saying ahead of time I will not dress up this year and if Dad tries to put a costume on me again I will hide in rebellion.

Happy Fall!

Love,

Trick or Health Treat

IMG_1153Finally…

Well campers things seem to be getting back to normal. At least I hope they are, but I feel movement in the air. I better appreciate the calm before the crazy holidays season starts.

With this slight calmness things started to become more regular, which I like because I do not fare well when my schedule gets all out of whack. This weekend I was excited because Mom did her Farmer’s Market shopping. The Virginia Park Farmer’s market on Saturday in Santa Monica is the hit in our part of town. There are lots of fun things to see and Mom always brings me home a snack or two.  I’m always bummed that I am NOT allowed at the farmer’s market as I’m sure I could pick up some scooby snacks lying around but that’s the rule – no canines allowed.

After Mom got home and was out of the room I wanted to see what she brought me back in her bag. I love when I see that bag, as it is full of healthy, tasty treats like fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately I was caught red-handed or should I say bag-handed and felt a little guilty but not too much.

IMG_1150This week Dad it going to try to create healthy fried green tomatoes with pecan crust. We will see how that works out.

On our morning walk I heard Dad talk about maybe handing out dark chocolate for Halloween, since it is high in flavonoids which are good for human health, but unfortunately not for canine health.

Mom was a bit concerned with my possible barking at the trick or treaters but Dad said we would just sit outside and wait for them…. great I can just see it now with Dad in a lawn chair and me dressed up on parade.

Now that should be a start to an interesting end of the year.

Back to sleep…I have been wanting to lounge more which the units like but I think I am getting older…yep my third birthday is in a couple months. Old age is becoming on me.

Punky!

I Got Sent to the Country

IMG_7958 copy-2We all needed a break from each other.

Mom had her usual Motivational Interviewing workshop this week with LA Best Babies, and Dad had multiple assignments with shooting PEOPLE vs. canines – we all know how much I’m not a fan of that type of photography.

My schedule did not mesh with theirs so I got sent to the country.  I shouldn’t say sent since I really wanted to go.  I never get to run as much as I want to in this urban life that I live given Dad’s slow human pace on walks and not enough yard to run.

When I overheard I might be going, I soon realized I could barely wait to go.  When the trainer lady came to get me, I ran across the lawn and promptly jumped up into the van in my own personal crate – something Dad has never see me do before.  Even though I’m a city dog I guess I’m country at heart.  I love running all over and looking at the farm animals especially the horses.  I’ve been called a horse before but not really sure why (?)

IMG_7930-1I unfortunately missed Auntie Chris’s annual St. Patrick’s day party.  I got to go 2 years ago when I was about 10 pounds but since I’m now 75 pounds I’m over the weight limit for coming, plus I’m not a fan of green or costumes.

It would have been fun, especially since she has felines (like Bashful pictured here in MY place) I could chase, good food to eat and lots of people to give me the pets I deserve.  Maybe next year if I beg hard enough the weight limit will be removed and Dad can find a better green outfit than the skeleton one I hated for Halloween.  Mom did not wear green so Auntie Chris made her wear these glasses.

Well, back to my running since I have to go home tomorrow.  Later people and Happy St. Patty’s Day!

No weather report today but I hear the sun is shining in Santa Monica!

Halloween and Me

photo-2So this past week was odd but in a good way.  First Dad told me we needed to get me an outfit for Halloween.  What?  He wants to play dress up with me?  I am NOT into that sort of thing.  The last time he tried to put something on me I was not impressed.  I am not a toy Dad.

Reluctantly I loaded up in the car, which I was excited about and we went shopping.  Now I like a good store that I can cruz around in and this time Dad took me to Katie’s Pet Depot which I LOVE.  Oh the smells, toys and fellow friends.  I got very excited and it was hard to contain myself.

Anyways, he made me try on these odd looking clothes.  It was a hot mess because the sales person had to come over and help being the extra large size that I am.

First they tried to put a skunk costume on me and I vetoed that.  It had pink ears and a tail.  I don’t have a tail so why would I want to Velcro one on?  I hated it so much that I got away from the lady and took off down the aisle.  This only made Dad more furious chasing me with the stupid skunk costume on.  The ears slid off and I looked like I had a skunk beard on my face.

Thank goodness they did not have the Raggedy Andy costume in my size because the red hair thing for my head would have made me CRAZY!

Finally he found a skeleton one that glowed in the dark.  It was challenging with the headpiece but I dealt with it.  My ears kept slipping out and the lady tied it in a bow.  Needless to say I wore Dad out and I had to wear the costume home.  I did not really care as my head hung out the window with a skullcap on.

But the real excitement happened later.  I could hear all these little people outside moving around and I was anxious.  What on earth could be going on?  Next thing I know we were all going on an evening walk…what?  That never happens.

photo-3I cannot even tell you how fun it was walking with all the peoples and kids.  Of course my costume glowed and I was popular as I should be!  All the kids wanted to pet me, and everyone liked my costume except one man who called me a “boney dog.”  I just ignored his comment.

We even went to my friend’s houses across the street Ginger and Snowy and trick or treated.  I got a few snacks and I loved it.

When we got home my Aunt Audrey came by and we had a good time.  I was so tired after my evening out I just fell asleep in my costume.  I had the best time and hopefully we can do that again but not with the costume, since I decided I’m really not a fan, especially the head part.  I heard Dad mentioning Christmas time and if I was not good he might find me a reindeer outfit.  He better not or else…
