June Gloom, Fireworks and Earthquakes

It’s June gloom in Santa Monica, I’m still headache hungover from the July 4th cacophony of noise and to top it off I’m queasy due to 2 earthquakes we had in the last 24 hours. Dad put my Thundershirt on me which helped a smidge. I’m sorry I’ve been MIA for a while. Mom has been crazy busy with trainings, patients and book writing and Dad has been taking some classes – hence less overall time with ME.

I’m not saying I’m that neglected but since it should be about ME all the time this has been a bit disconcerting.  To top it off I’ve developed a sore on my leg and I might have to go to the vet next week.  So things are pretty status quo around here unless you think earthquakes are exciting. Last might it was 7.1 and the house shook a LOT. We are thankful nothing happened or was broken. Dad has been praying.

Besides that all is well in the Dopart-Batchelor household.  We will try to write more often and hope all of you are having a nonevent summer – safer that way.

Much Love,

Perry
The Weather Weimaraner

It’s ALMOST Christmas!

It’s getting more interesting around Casa de Perry as we have this large plant in the middle of the living room with lots of interesting things hanging on it. It also glows and I’m fascinated by it all.  However, better than that Dad is cooking up all these fun foods and of course I get to sample MOST of what he cooks – I say most since not all – which I am bummed about but at least the scoobie snacks are more prevalent.

I’ve decided to calm down in my older days and sleep in since it’s been cold – even for Santa Monica. However, I am known as the “heater hog” as I put my face and eyes into whatever is warm. Dad keeps warning me that I’m going to burn my eye sockets out but I don’t think he realizes how us Weims are infallible – at least with respect to most things.

I have this thing on my body that keeps me warm but it’s a pain and I’m not loving it.  I am loving that the parentals have been around more than usual over the holidays and I’ve gotten TWO whole walks a day.  Besides the gentle-leader that I have a distaste for it’s great since people yell out the window of their car how beautiful I am as I prance by.

Hope you all have a Happy Holiday or Hanukkah – whichever you celebrate.  I celebrate all holidays as long as they involve treats.

I’m SIX Years OLD!

I’m SIX: I’m finally at the “supposed to be” calming stage that most dogs hit at two but somehow it just hasn’t quite happened yet. I LOVE to exercise and get in my walks and still have lots of energy to spare. I’m way more energetic than the parentals but that’s not saying much since they are both almost a 1/2 a decade old.

My birthday was coming and I was feeling a little down and all of a sudden I smelt something or should I say I HEARD something and then I knew “the Tutu” was coming.  For most of you that don’t know this girl she is sort of this bossy gal who makes a lot of noise and steals my toys. I do secretly kind of like her, but I heard her coming and braced myself for the unexpected.  She came bearing birthday gifts from Beverly Hills so I must have done something right. These cookies were SO fancy that Dad even tried to eat one.  But we had to make sure that these fancy show cookies from Pussy Pooch were gluten-free as I am SENSITIVE and had a bad reaction in the past. But Tutu’s Mom made sure they were okay – she hooked me up with some birthday fun so I’m feeling better now.

Once we got the okay I was able to have a pre-birthday cookie in sheer SIX year old fashion – I chose the pretty blue star and here I am anticipating the deliciousness I am about to experience in my mouth. Life has been good in the Dopart-Batchelor house and I’ve missed all of you. As usual lots going on with books, trainings and work but I’m just glad to be a part of it all.

Happy New Year to all of you in 2018!

Love,

Perry

P.S. – I almost forgot my weather report. After only .12 inches of rain all year we are about to get a deluge of 2 inches so hopefully my back yard will start to turn from brown to green!

I’m A Sensitive Dog

IMG_2699Hello All,

We are in the thick of the gray fog, cool mornings and sun in the afternoon. We call it “June Gloom” and it can be more than a little melancholy. For most of the country it is the start of summer but here in LA it feels like the end as the drought is taking its toll and we are living in the land of brown.

I have been doing much better. I am starting to be left by myself out of the crate for up to 6 hours now.  Do you hear that people!

Of course this is not all the time but I can tell Dad is trusting me more and I love it. I get to lounge and have been good (knock on wood) with not wanting to destroy things or the house. Apparently the parental units did a fairly good job with my training. And if I need time in my crate the door is open and I just hang out in there of my own free will.

However, we all know how sensitive my skin is and again I have been having some skin problems. Last week while I was away I came back with a quarter size bump on my chin. Mom has been hooking me up with some essential oil application and it seems to help. Unfortunately it’s the oregano oil, so I smell like pizza but it does seem to be helping my owie.

I did hear the parentals are leaving again to BACK to Visalia and I will go to my camp and I am excited about that.

Life is mellowing out. I am almost 3.5 years and finally starting to settle down. But don’t let that fool any of you. I am still a crazy Weimaraner who can run and cause havoc with the best of them.  I just know how to calm myself down when I need to which I why I have my blanket in sight at all times as you can see.

Peace People,

Perry

Nuttin For Christmas

I can’t wait for Christmas, even though it’s not quite Thanksgiving.

They say I have a “pen addiction” but they just don’t understand – I want to write to my fans and at this time of year I want to especially write to Santa.

I’ve always enjoyed crunching on a good pen or two – I especially like the red ones, since they explode nicely on my lips and it looks like I did conquer my nemesis, PITA, the squirrel.

But I really shouldn’t say that since I would be deemed naughty, and put on “The Blacklist,” the parentals new show which Dad says is intriguing, whatever that means.

So I better be good so I don’t end up like that Barry Gordon song “Nuttin’ For Christmas.”

It was a blustery day in Santa Monica, and all our lips are chapped except mine which are red as well.  I heard the parentals say I might need to go to Pen’s Anonymous but I might be the only one at the meetings, and it might be a pain in my gluteus maximus, which is small by the way.

Later folks!

The Tutu

IMG_1210The blind date did not go over very well…

Yep – the parental units decided it would be OK to bring in a “lady friend” for a visit.

As usual, it is like most weekends around here and with a lot of work and always doing something going on.

Mom and her RD intern Farah from Pepperdine needed to work on some social media business, blogs and recipes. And we all know, I like anything that sounds social and of course I long for the media attention. Farah has a dog and she was to hang out with me.

Don’t get too excited yet since it wasn’t…umm…all that fun and special.

Her name was Tutu and she was little, compact, a bit bossy and a princess-like, and it was it a long afternoon with my play date.

IMG_1218First she had this loud breathing noise, then she stole my bone and finally she got a little bossy with me.

I admit I was afraid of the Tutu and hung outside. When Dad got home I walked way around the girl who stole my bone. Look at my face in the photo folks. The Tutu had some power, and my ego-strength was lacking a bit.

Even with being thrown off today I still got my hang out time with Farah, who I love and would prefer that she just be my lady friend.

Farah also helped Mom out this week when she was interviewed for ABC Channel 7 news on camel milk. Glad I was not part of that since I think the camel would have frightened me more than Tutu. However, we know I am a complete foodie and I would have been game to try the milk.

At the end of the day Farah and Tutu left and as I watched her walk away perfectly mannered off leash she turned back and smiled. It was almost like she said, “see how cute I am and I have manners so there.”

IMG_1223Hmm…I sure have a lot to learn still. But I like that no leash thing so we’ll have to see how I convince the parental’s to let me try that sometime.

I almost forgot – the weather has been MUCH better and today it was a lovely 74 degrees in Santa Monica.

Peace!

Perry

I Missed Graduation at Santa Monica College!

photoHello People!

This summer is shaping up to be fun and exciting. I love summer time because my internal clock keeps moving which means I am UP by 5AM wanting my food. Also, it means I can get a jump-start on the PITA, who continually torments me with his squeaking.

Dad took a video of my nemesis taunting me and put it on Facebook and everyone loves it. The best part is it is caught on tape so no one can deny he gets up in my face.

It has also been an exciting time as Dad FINALLY graduated. I was bummed out, as I did not get to go to the commencement. He tried to be nice and put his hat on my head to take a photo but I was not having anything to do with his decorated photography cap. That will teach him!  The great news is he can now spend more time with ME instead and take my pictures versus all those other non-canines he’s been hanging out with.

Also, I wanted to announce  I am starting to visit the office a little more and I am excited that maybe they will let me go there more and see my fans. However, when I am done with something I am ready to leave. I overheard them say I need to step up my training so I am a better behaved dog. I will get there but that patience thing is challenging.  I can only last a little more than an hour and then want to go on to the next errand of the day.

My medical issue is much better and I am feeling great. It is hard though at times as I want to eat anything and everything and I cannot have wheat or anything too fun.

However, the good news is I do live in the Dopart-Batchelor household so there is always fun food around – I just have to wait long enough in the kitchen for something to magically drop on the floor. Dad is trying his best to hook up my meal times and I am pretty satisfied.

I did get into a more than a LITTLE bit of trouble as I am mastering opening of the dog food container. Did you know if you do not screw the top tight you could just take your foot and paw at it until it opens? It totally awesome as then you have a buffet and can eat all you want – I had my own “Hometown Buffet” and it was awesome!  Dad was doing something else besides watching me so that will teach him!

And, of course the Weather Weimaraner reporting a REALLY warm day here in Santa Monica – I believe it got up to 80 degrees today so our plants were not so happy!

Love to ALL my fun fans!
