I’ve Regressed in my Older Years

IMG_6120I know things are happening in the Punky Household – lots of changes with websites, new books, Mom’s training and everyone seems to be going in multiple directions.

All I know is I want my FOOD 24/7 and if I’m not fed on time I get cranky and annoying to the parentals.  After all, I am 40 in human years so it just makes sense that I would want my food on time. Unfortunately, they are on to me and know I try to corral them around breakfast and dinner time.  I usually start my plan of attack 45 minutes ahead, and herd Dad in the direction of the kitchen.

When that does not work I will find something to bark at in my “outside voice” inside and if THAT does not work, I know the mail man comes 5 minutes before dinner. I will rush to grab the mail and bite off a part of the envelope to really get Dad’s attention. It sometimes becomes a game for who can get to the slot first. Usually I prevail since I have 4 legs and can get there quicker than the middle-aged man.

Since nectarines are in season Dad has been eating them and he last week he slyly put part of one on the back of the counter with a pit. I showed him and ate the whole thing, pit and all. He was nervous that he was going to have to pay for an expensive surgery but thank goodness, I was able to get throw it up in the middle of the night – I guess I was not aware something like that could happen.  It’s just a little old pit, right?

I think that is all that is new.  I am sorry I’ve been MIA but it was REALLY hot in Casa de Perry – about 95 to be exact and we have no cool air in this Casa and it tired me out a bit. I even had to lay my head on the coffee table here as you see. Thank goodness Fall is almost here. The Weather Weimaraner wants to move to cooler weather but for now Santa Monica is my home.

Everyone’s on MY Schedule

punkytreatsThat’s right.  I’m up at 6 am or 5:30 like I was this morning.  NO one sleeps in at our house.  What is with these parentals?   Dad was not happy with me this morning and Mom got to sleep in a little but then I proceeded to walk up and down the hall shaking my head till she got up at 7 am.   It’s gotten to the point where Dad has to take a nap every afternoon to recover from my morning routine.

I thought it was time to check in on my current report card and needs for improvement.

The Good:

1.  I have been left outside my crate multiple times up to 5 hours without any disturbance in the house.  When Mom and Dad come home I am sitting politely in my chair or in my crate of my own accord.  I still have not graduated to full access status but hopefully soon.

2.  I have not chewed any pens for quite some time.  I never did go to pen’s anonymous but somehow I was able to get over my addiction on my own. Dad left a pen on the table this past week when I was home alone and I noticed it but decided to leave it alone since I’ve been a bit naughty in other areas (below).

3.  I continue to be loving to all those I meet (minus the squirrels) and allow every child and adult to pet and love on me when I meet them.

Needs for Improvement:

1.  I still continue to pull on the leash when we walk.  I’m not sure I will ever outgrow that one.

2.  When Mom and Dad are home (as opposed as when they are gone) I become a bit unruly and want constant attention all the time.  I still drag all the things out of my “toy chest” and string them all over the house.

3. I “stole” the new scooby snack bag my new blonde friend Debra brought last weekend (it was mine remember) and ate the entire bag in the backyard while Mom and Dad were watching one of their shows.  My dinner was delayed that night since I had more than a full tummy.

4.  I continue to bark at squirrels and dogs walking by my house (how dare they come near my domain?)

I know to the parentals it feels like I’m not improving sometimes.  Mom commented that I am 32 in human years and needed to act more mannerly – asking for my treats, letting her sleep in since it is a rare occasion and being the “show” dog that I was designed to be.  Maybe some day, but not this week.

It was a beautiful day today in Santa Monica although we are having a little pre “June Gloom” as they call it which is fine with me since it’s cooler on my walks.

Happy Memorial Day to all of you and try not to eat too much at those BBQ’s or at least save some of the treats for me.  I’m still trying to get more treats today as you can see by this picture. It’s my favorite place to sit for whatever yummy bite drops of a new recipe I can get my chops on.

And the Oscar Goes To….Perry?

IMG_2368Dad finally returned from the cold land of Kansas City Missouri. I was excited to see him and instantly forgave him for abandoning me by counter suffering and snatching a full chicken off the counter. Told you payback can be fun.

The week went great and all of us here at Casa de Perry are happy and healthy. We are working on printing a batch of our book A Healthy Baker’s Dozen, which should be ready in a month. Mom continues to book speaking engagements in Motivational Interviewing all over the country and Dad is trying to keep me out of trouble or should I say I keep him out of trouble.

I thought things were getting close to perfect since we were having a workday at the house. Usually these are pretty cool and mellow, with Dad in the office and me lounging with a big bone.

BUT NOT this time!

The Zade baby came over which means I do not receive all of my loves and attentions, which I am entitled to. Plus didn’t Dad just go to Missouri for that baby? And Dad was holding that little thing way too much and I felt abandoned.

IMG_2505I had had enough and tried to challenge the little creature with a stare down as you can see. Finally after a few hours things went back to normal and the baby was put into his container thingy and left.

Of course once the godchild left I shared with Dad my frustration by taking a few pairs of his shoes outside. That will learn him.

As you can see I am just sitting here waiting for the Academy Awards to begin.

Well, it is once again the Oscars and even though Ellen is not hosting it, Doogie Howser, MD will be in the house.

OK, red carpet fans you will not see me out there on it as it is overcast, chilly and the temp in Santa Monica is only 64 degrees today. I know our east coast friends are more than jealous but remember I have absolutely no hair or body fat to keep me warm, so I’m entitled to a little complaining.

And the Oscar goes to…

Maybe Perry?

I AM THE BUTTER THIEF

photoI just can’t seem to help myself!

I love butter and can’t seem to get enough of it. When Dad is cooking I wait till he’s not looking and steal it off the counter.  I’ve done this multiple times so it seems Dad is not too smart at remembering my thievery.

Maybe HE needs more of those omega 3 fats for his memory – who knows?

In fact, he frequently leaves things on the counter for me to steal and Mom reminds him but lately his mind is elsewhere-maybe somewhere in the photo clouds (?)

I don’t really differentiate but I do really like Plugra butter the best – I know that grass-fed butter from Europe is the best and gives me good fats for my fabulous shiny coat.  I also know the research that butter IS the preferred fat over margarine which Mom does not allow in the house.

So now I’m on a short leash since Dad found my butter paper stash in the back yard under the pine tree.  No more late night scooby butter snacks.  I guess I’ll have to find a new fix.  Here I am nonchalantly trying to hide the butter stick I stole but we know it will soon be taken away!

And I ALMOST forgot – it was a beautiful sunny 73 degrees today in Santa Monica – have you noticed it has been about the same temperature each week?  No wonder I have to get into trouble to change things up.

Until next week PEOPLE!

10,000 Steps or Bust…

Hello People!

photoOK, here is the 411 in the 310 area code…the weather has been outstanding and I have really enjoyed the fact that it is staying lighter later. I get more playtime outside and also love getting the parentals up earlier because I don’t subscribe to that daylight savings stuff.

As for the parentals it has been quite interesting lately. You see Dad is on one of his OCD things and is determined to get healthier by graduation time. I hear there might be a party, which is awesome, as I will hopefully get some treats.

So he got this thing funny wrist thing called a Fitbit, which calculates his steps. He needs to do 10,000 a day or 5 miles, which means MORE OUTSIDE TIME FOLKS. Our walks have improved and I love that fact plus I get to see more people and you know what that means? Yep, more attentions and affections.

Apparently humans need to get this 10,000 steps per day to prevent heart disease, diabetes and weight issues.  That is a no-brainer for me as you can see I keep my nice trim physique – I don’t need a funny wrist band to tell me that – us canines are a little smarter than the humans but I guess we do need each other.

On a more sober note we need to say some prayers for our friends who had some damage in the latest earthquake, which I slept through. We have been having a lot lately. I don’t like them but am glad to report no one has been hurt.  Auntie Robin lost a lot of her dishes and I offered to go help her clean up but she did not think that was a good idea – I wonder why?  Mom says she’s a smart woman to refuse my help since I’m known for counter surfing in the kitchen.

Mom has been working really hard with her Motivational Interviewing trainings and talked to LA Best Babies this week – have you noticed she helps a lot of people having or who have had babies? Not sure I like that since I’m the baby of the house.  However, I do love laying next to her while she works on her workshop notes.

I have calmed down and am becoming an adult dog. Now don’t get any ideas folks – I still can hang and play with the best of them.  In fact, here I am chilling after my 2 big walks today!

Until next report hang tough and stay out of trouble or at least don’t get caught – I have a habit of being found out as you all well know.

I Am a Meatball Thief

photo-2As the rest of the country is experiencing crazy weather of the likes of snow, rain and ice, we seem to be having summer time.  I do wonder what this thing is that I have been hearing about called snow.  I have seen some pictures and it looks fun. Maybe one day the parentals will take me to play in it, if I’m good which was not the case this weekend.

Mom had a Motivational Interviewing training for the dietetic interns from Pepperdine University.  I did get to go to the office and help set up.  It was fun because as Dad would set out the pens of course I had to steal them.

I have been a little thief as of late and have had more than a few time outs.  Mom went on an appointment and of course I needed to keep Dad on his toes so I thought I would get his attention by stealing my treats off the desk.  Dad had a little bit of a melt down but I could tell he was not too upset as he was laughing at me. I am just so darn cute and irresistible it is hard for them to stay mad at me.

Then as usual I got into much more trouble.  I thought I could push my luck a little further and well…it backfired.  Dad was making meatballs and I was minding my p’s and q’s in the kitchen perfectly.

photoThen he received a phone call and got side tracked, and my golden opportunity came. I just could not resist the big bowl of warm, delicious smelling meatballs.  The next thing I know is the voice of thunder and it was not a cheerful one.

However, I did not give myself a timeout quite yet-I ran outside. I knew I was going to be having a long timeout and wanted to make sure I was not scared of the dark so I brought in a yard light. This only made Dad turn into Daddy Dearest.  I do love to get his goat.

So this week’s Italian dinner got cut short a night due to my love of meatballs,  which might be my last ever so I had to enjoy them while I could!

Week of Thanks!

photoGreetings and Salutations People!

I hope this finds each of you well and smiling.  I have been hard at work pulling my fair share of the weight here at Casa de Perry and I have been awarded handsomely.

First and foremost I want to thank all of you my adoring fan base.  This week my numbers were in from my blogs and I am pleased to announce that over 5,800 people read about me from all over the world.

There are too many to list but here are a few…China, Australia, Russia, Europe, Alaska, Fiji and on and on.  Personally I think it is great that I, the one and only PERRY has invaded the world.  To quote an 80’s icon, Madonna, “I want to rule the world.” It looks like I am on my way to doing it!

The best part of it all is that Auntie Mar-jor-ie sent me a care package full of most excellent treats from Zukes for my big 2 year old birthday and they are healthy and grain-free.  I am totally addicted and have to be careful because my counter surfing has increased.  I LOVE THEM!  Mom especially likes them because they are healthy and support optimal health and nutrition.  For all my canine fans out there you have to make your parentals get you some.

I did have to go to the vet this week and get some shots but it was OK and I was a good boy.  They were nice and I got some attention and treats, which are crucial to my existence.  I did misbehave some today and stole pens and glasses a few times (I limit my thieving to those 2 items in the house) and was sent to the crate.

Mom is hoping by my 3rd birthday I will learn to control my impulses to steal since I can’t seem to stop breaking the 8th commandment although I think I have the 9 other’s under control..except the one about coveting.  I’m not sure I could ever get that one under control.  So 8 out of 10 not bad, right?

OK people I need to get going since Dad is not watching and I smell those Zukes treat….

LATER!

I’m Getting Better and Here’s my Report Card

203I’m 20 months old right now and Mom says she can’t wait till I’m 2.  Auntie Deb in Florida says I will be a great dog at 3 so that makes me excited to get older.

I still have many issues that need what Dad calls “training” but I thought I’d give you a current report card to let you know just how much I’ve improved:

  1. I can do a 10 minute wait for a snack when I want to…yes I drool but can wait even when the parentals leave the room
  2. I’ve slept on the chair in the living room all night by myself for at least a week without waking up Dad till 6:30 am
  3. I rode in Mom’s car this week and behaved myself the whole time
  4. I have not shredded toilet paper for a week (although I did get into some paper towels – I guess I still need paper anonymous)
  5. I’ve never to this day had an accident in the house and always go potty outside.  This is old news as I was fully potty-trained at 8 weeks.  I guess you could say I am an overachiever but only with things I want to do
  6. I always eat my vegetables without a complaint and my favorite is broccoli
  7. I went to see a new friend Koby yesterday and played very nicely with him at his casa – Dad made us look cartoon-like to be funny…I kind of like the psychedelic look

I still could improve on car etiquette with Dad, lowering my propensity for counter surfing, and barking too loudly when someone I don’t know walks by the house but for the most part I’m turning out to be a respectable dog.

I always appreciate all my fellow blog friends and invite you to come by and give me treats when you are in the neighborhood.

Peace People!

Perry is SAD for New Jersey Shore

photoSome of my family lives in New Jersey so a little bit of my heart lives there too.  I was sad to hear about how the Jersey shore was hurt.  I was feeling bad about it so I dug through my toy box and found my stuffy from the NJ boardwalk.  I kept it close to me as I was thinking and saying some prayers for the people in NJ.

Otherwise I have been doing fairly OK except I did get into a little bit of trouble this past week.  I’m not really sure what the big deal was?

I snuck on the counter and got the big fancy fluffy role of paper towels (it is so deliciously soft) and took it into my crate and made a big mess.  Then I was feeling a little guilty and Dad was not giving me the attention I require so I went and “lifted” his glasses off the coffee table.

photo-2No I know this makes him go CRAZY so I casually walked up to him with them in my mouth.  I watched the veins pop out in his neck while he yelled “crate.”  I walked slowly down the hall with him in tow and went in my crate amongst the new fluffy VIVA paper towel bed.  I’m not sure why he was upset since I was confessing and he apparently did not receive my confession as well as could be expected.

No worries people since I have him wrapped around my paws.  You see later that afternoon I just snuggled up to him and we took a nap.

My heart and prayers go out to those affected by the fire on the New Jersey boardwalk.

Happy Spring and Easter!

photoThings are just cruising along nicely this week.  Dad has been busy with his Photography class and clients, Mom is preparing to be interviewed on TV,  and I have been experiencing this thing called Easter.  Boy do I wish I could we could have that everyday.  Today all of us got up early and went for a long walk by the beach and Santa Monica Pier.  I love all the attention from my fan base.  I was a little frustrated that Dad would not let me run and chase these things he called rats with wings.   I think they are called pigeons and they would just taunt me by walking all around me and slowly just out of leash reach.

Because of this special day, the parental units gave me a new food to try out called Nulo, which I might add is not only very healthy but also rather tasty.  I hear they may be letting me have more of it.   But everything has to pass mom’s test of health.

imagejpeg952

Plus I continue to get my daily dose of marrowbones, which I cannot complain about.  When I nudge dad with my noise making toys he asks me if I need a baby-sitting snack?  OF COURSE I DO!  I am the equivalent to the canine garbage disposal.  I love the snacks and treats.  However, I still get into trouble if I try to do a self-service snack on the counter.

On a bummer note, my aunty Francine, at “the Day’s” that Dad nicknamed for my puppy daycare at Centinela Pet and Supplies, found a owie on my toe.  Dad is making me go to see my vet Dr. Annie Hernandez at Santa Monica Pet Center tomorrow.  She took good care of my predecessor the famous George.  It’s a good things she’s nice and sweet since I’m like most men in that I don’t like going to the doctor.  I guess I have to be thankful I have nice people watching out for my every need.  I love you Aunty Francine.

OK people,  sending you bunny thoughts and chocolate kisses.
