A Dog and his Boy

IMG_3336Hello People!

I am pretty tired as I just got back from a long visit at my camp in the country. The parental’s were out and about trying to  impact the world with wisdom about gluten and to speak with relevance to others using Motivational Interviewing.  We all know what happens to me if I eat even a smidgen of gluten – so I’m all about spreading the word about gluten sensitivity.

Mom was speaking to the Intertribal WIC of Arizona and at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach. Both groups help women who have diabetes and they want to learn how to truly help others with behavior change. The parentals are always trying to change my walking habits so I don’t pull the leash but I don’t think Motivational Interviewing will help me change my mind about pulling – that is something us Weims just do to annoy our owners.

The weather has been great, a little windy, with the sun out. I have been resting a lot as you can tell by the picture. I am so big and take up the chair that he has to lay on me. It’s a bit crowded but I do like the snuggles.

Till next week’s adventures!

I was Left OUT!

FullSizeRenderHello People…

This weekend has been both exciting and a little frustrating.

First I met this really nice lady when Dad and I walked to pick up Mom from yoga. She is friends with William Wegman and was very excited to see me. I loved how she gave me ear rubs and the attention I so deserve.  She invited the parentals to one of his openings in a few weeks – I wonder if I’m going to get to go to that -after all, it’s all about Weims.  Mom has to go to yoga to get in her downward dogs but I don’t need a class since I do that pose everyday, and usually the first thing after getting up.  Another reason we are superior to humans!

Now about that attention I deserve…well the parental’s didn’t display this when they decided to take a little road trip to a new store, Protein for Pets, and brought home SAMPLES. What? How on earth could they venture to a place and not take me. A dog approved spot in town (well everywhere in LA seems to be dog approved so that’s not saying much) with food.

IMG_3231They did bring back a few things for me to try out which I guess was nice but I was not having it and hid from them. As you can see I went to my favorite spot, which makes Dad crazy. I crawl under the bed, but cannot get out since it’s such a small space.  When I am finally ready to come out I just lay on my side and stretch my legs out and they have to pull me out. It is brilliant and fun for me.

Even with my own PITA behavior they were loving, kind and gave me a treat, but only ONE.  I can’t understand why I can’t be like humans and eat the whole bag but maybe that’s a good thing since overeating is not good for Weims – we do have that “bloat” problem which can be quite serious.  These treats are called Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw duck medallions, which I LOVED.  Apparently they are good for “cooling” and my system needs that according to the vet.

Well the weather was nice at a warm 70 degrees with a little breeze for our walk today.

Until next time,

Perry

Spring, Easter and New Beginnings

FullSizeRender-2Happy Easter People!  I’m beyond excited this week as it was the beginning of spring, Easter today and the garden is in full form!

Well the parental units have been busy as usual so that they forgot to let the bunny know where my Easter basket was.  However, they did do me right by letting me have a few treats – healthy dog treats vs. the peeps I’ve heard humans like. Then again, I will take any treat I can get away with.

Mom and Dad went to church and I got to stay home and rest…but we know how that goes.  I never rest except after 6 and only if I’ve had a proper walk – after all, a dog needs to get his 10,000 steps in, right?  And I DON’T even need a fitbit or an iWatch to track my steps!

I finally got to try the new snack Mom got at the Natural foods Expo by Pet Naturals called Hip and Joint treat.  Of course I had to pose but I don’t mind as long as I get treats.

The Santa Monica weather has been amazing this week as it was quite a pleasant 73 degrees today when Mom and I had our walk and Dad even joined in as well.

With spring in full swing, the garden is beautiful and the birds and squirrels are making me a little crazy, but hey that is part of my story and backyard…Perry’s playmates.

Enjoy all the wonder life has for you right now!

Perry missed the Disneyland Drive-by

IMG_3178So the parental’s went to the annual Natural Foods Expo West in Anaheim and didn’t even take me for a drive by of Disneyland. I was a little upset, but got over it as they did not forget about me. As usual they were good parents and brought home some treats and products I could enjoy.

However, as usual I had to “pose” with the treats but soon afterward Mom let me rip into my new Buckley Jerky treats complete with some types of supplements I don’t understand to help all my joints.  They even have ones for the immune system, which we all know I need help with.

Mom only gave me ONE and then hid them on the counter so while they were eating dinner I tried to “steal” another one since they were REALLY yummy!  We all know I love treats but these were beyond exceptional. However, she was ON to me and hid them on the top of the refrigerator since not even I am tall enough to get up there.  I’m bummed but will have to have them doled out. I guess I have been known to steal whole bags of treats and as Dad says under his breath “just when you think you can trust Perry, you can’t.”

Otherwise, we are hanging out with a little chill and sleepy eyes with cooler weather.

Daylight savings time hit last night and as usual we know that messes up my chow time but it’s okay since it drives Dad crazy – something I live for!

Until next time,

The Oscars 2016

IMG_3129It was all about diversity or lack of it, which seems to be an issue not only at the Oscars but this election cycle.

I don’t understand too much about that because I look at everyone as a person of worth and love just as long as they are kind to me and give me attention that I deserve. OK, that was my PSA for the week.

As for our reality the parentals are busy as ever. Mom continues to expand her expertise in Motivational Interviewing and coding tapes for fidelity to the language along with helping others understand the importance of behavior change.

Of course Dad has his cranky pants on as it is tax season and he is definitely not effervescent. He gets irritated at me when I steal his pens and lay on all the papers. That’s OK, as I have been getting him back. You see, I have become a master at really making him crazy.

Lately every chance I get I go find Dad’s wallet and take it outside. He literally panicked this week since he thought he lost his wallet. Mom figured it out and told him to search in the backyard.  I’m not sure what the big deal was – I had just put it on the patio in plain sight.  Lately he has been hiding it better from me. It is still nice to know that even after 4 years of hanging out with him I can still make him crazy.

Our weather has been a bit schizophrenic with bouts of warm and cold all mixed up.  Mom usually has her little heater on during breakfast and I’ve been known to “steal” whatever warmth there is – remember I have no hair so I need all the warmth I can get.

As for the weather today we had some June gloom intermixed with 70’s weather which was nice for my walk with Mom before the red carpet began.

Stay safe people and be kind to others.

Peace,

Perry

Perry Pipes In

IMG_3126Can you believe we are almost a third of the way through this election year already? It is crazy how time flies when you get older. That’s OK with me, I spend more time resting in the sun then I did in my youth.

Things have been crazy as they always at Casa de Perry. It is tax season and as usual Dad has his cranky pants on, Mom is being sought after to share her Motivational Interviewing skills to help people’s lives and as for me I continue to watch the birds, squirrels and that dreaded Sherlock Holmes dog next store.

Some exciting news was that I did get to go to my camp in the country last week since Dad was in Ohio racking up four more godchildren and Mom was speaking at a couple of engagements. I had fun because I was free of them for a few days. I needed a break.

Glad I was back in time to help Mom make some of her gluten free cookies from, A Healthy Baker’s Dozen, for a book signing in Malibu at Bank of Books. I will miss that activity as they say I need to stay home and watch the house. Don’t they get it I would be a selling feature?

The weather has been a little schizophrenic with rain, sun and chill. It was a party sunny 68 degrees in Santa Monica today so I can’t complain too much.

Well people – enjoy the political primaries and remember to be kind to others…

Version 2Hello Voters?

The Iowa Caucuses are in full swing and we are all waiting with anticipation to find out what the outcome will be.

The 2016 presidential campaign remains a political circus and all the candidates need some Teflon to deflect the mud slinging. The campaign dollars, superpacs, and all the flip-flopping is taking a toll on the American people’s patience.

Hillary is running from the Bern and Ted is trying to cover Donald’s hair with maybe a Canadian flag?? They are all hash tag CRAZY and consuming the air out of the real issues at hand or at least I feel that way. But then again, I am just a dog.

When I go on my walks I try and be kind to all those cross my path. There are dogs of different colors, sizes and breeds, and the little purse dogs make me nervous. But these dogs and their differences is which can make life exciting and visually appealing. If we all looked the same then what would life’s purpose be?

PerryandJeffreyMy wish for all of you this season is to be respectful of people’s choices even if they are not inline with your own. Getting mad, angry or mean is not a Perry approved option.

That’s my political commentary and I am sticking to it. Unless of course it involves peanut butter and then I am checked out.

AND one of my favorite girlfriends Auntie Chris came and chilled with me on Friday night – she came over to celebrate 20 years of friendship with Mom – probably longer than I will be alive and took a picture of Dad and I before she left.

We had some rain today in Santa Monica and lots of wind but Mom and I managed a walk this afternoon so all is well from the Weather Weimaraner!

Happy 4th Birthday to ME!

FullSizeRender-2This morning was like the rest…get up, go out, eat breakfast and then back to bed. I love the extra snoozes I get.

Once everyone was up, I gave my usual love and affection to the parentals. They told me it was my birthday and gave me some extra love, which we all know I deserve.

Then I got side tracked with a barking fit as the neighbor dog walks too close to my house as we know how territorial I am.

Apparently this sort of warning system is not really working for Mom and Dad or the fact that I have slipped back into my old habit of pulling a little too much on my walks.

But wait, before everyone gets all upset…I have not slipped up with my healthy eating and yes I too like Mom recommends to  her clients am consuming my probiotics. I also continue to take my Carlson fish oil which has tremendously helped my skin and itching, which we know is a problem with us Weimaraners.

FullSizeRender.jpgThe day was progressing nicely and as it was my 4th Birthday, I was enjoying my lounging and resting time. Then, there was an intrusion and I heard the door bell and went into bark mode. The next thing I know is The Tutu was there at my front door. What? She is coming to my birthday party?

Well as usual she wobbles in with her Darth Vader breathing and went straight for my stash of bones. I wish I had a lightsabor.

Anyway we hung out and she did wish me a Happy Birthday so she is OK in my book, but that stealing of my bones…I guess I should play well and share a little more.

For dinner Dad hooked me up PEOPLE! It was amazing as you can see and I enjoyed every last morsel.

The weather in Santa Monica has been cold and rainy and El Nino is in full gear. We are excited about 2016 and have lots of plans…stay tuned as it should be an adventure.

Love,

Perry

Happy New Year!

IMG_2987Once again within a blink of an eye 2015 is a memory and 2016 brings forth new adventures with my pack, the parentals.

We finished off the year with a family road trip to San Luis Obispo for some relaxation. However, it was challenging as Dad was sick and took my spot in the front seat. That’s OK, since I whined a lot to keep up with their conversation. It was a long time in the car and I wanted to get there sooner than later.

Mom took me on all my morning walks and I was greeted by my SLO friends and even got to hang out with some of the horses. It was awesome time in the country.

On one of the days Mom and Dad went to Cambria to celebrate what they did 10 years ago when they got engaged, but of course I did NOT get to go. Oh the sappiness in my family. However, this time it was OK since I got to go to Thousand Hills Pet Resort and they are always excited to see me. I played with 2 big Doberman pinscher’s who kept me on my toes.

Dad was excited since he was also able to go to Linn’s restaurant and have a piece of his favorite Olallieberry buttercream cake for a belated birthday.

All in all it was a great trip. On the way home I did share with the parental’s my feelings of not being in the front seat with both of them with a cacophony of whines. That did not go over well and heard mention of being in a crate in the future. That would really cramp my style.

The year ended with all of us in bed by 9:30 for slumber, as it has been very cold here for Santa Monica. I stirred a little at midnight when all the fireworks went off but quickly returned back to sleep, in my taco bed, which keeps me toasty.

Today is supposed to be a fresh start but I figure every morning should be a new beginning. Be kind to all people as you do not know the impact of your benevolence, cherish the important things in life such as health and loved ones, and finally, always live life as an adventure as you never want to pass up an opportunity to learn.

Happy 2016 People!

Tis the Season…

IMG_2883The merry Christmas season is here and I feel lost in all the hustle and bustle.

As always things are moving by quickly and I can barely keep up. I am in the middle of the holiday bloat season or at least that is what I hear Mom blogging about. I love that part of the season especially with all of the cooking and baking going on. Dad and I have been pals with all my little treats and “accident” spills.

He has been hooking me up and I LOVE IT.  He even made Grandma Batchelor’s divinity candy yesterday for the children’s program – WHAT – am I not the child in this family?  At least I got a few little pieces that got dropped but unfortunately I did not get my own serving.  Mom says sugar is not good for my skin and itching but I still think it’s worth it.

This being my 4th Christmas season I am getting seasoned about what this time of the year is all about and what is truly important. It’s about love, life and kindness, and of course good food. The key part of it is how we can encourage and maintain these qualities throughout the upcoming year, and of course health which is important for all my friends.

I know that healthy food and regular exercise will help me feel better as our winter newsletter says, which Mom and intern Liz have been working on.  And I don’t even need an iWatch to tell me to stand up regularly and get exercise because I am always on the go.  I know humans need a reminder as opposed to canines (hence the reason we ARE the better species).

And remember if you want to learn about Motivational Interviewing make sure to sign up now for Mom’s new initial webinar series this Thursday.

It’s been a truly blustery day in Santa Monica and I was hoping Pooh and Piglet would visit.

Peace,

Perry
