The Unwelcome Visitors

FullSizeRenderIt sure has been WARM this weekend. No matter where I try to lay down I am very hot. Even under the bed. Some El Nino!

Last weekend Dad was out-of-town so I got to go to the country and play. I love being able to run around and check out all the other dogs and sights on the farm. Maybe the parental will have a small farm for me some day. Then they can have their range free organic eggs, a big garden of healthy green vegetables and of course the little baby goats.

This last week was not without drama. I got into or actually avoided trouble. A few nights ago it was hotter than usual when I went outside before bed. As I perused the yard I realized there were some interesting visitors hanging out on our fence and it was not the squirrel or the possums from the past.

Of course I started barking up a storm, which sent Dad running out. Yes, this was at 10 PM on a school night so we all know how drawing unnecessary attention is not welcomed here at Casa de Perry. But People – it was NECESSARY! You see there were two raccoons on the fence. Not one but TWO and that increased my odds of getting one. However, that is not how it went down. Dad the downer had to get up in my situation, which made me go crazy trying to crawl up the fence.

I saw that I had done a great job at knocking the baby off. He was hanging on and then the Mom got a little testy and started to crawl down the fence in my direction.

This sort of thing just gets the adrenaline pumping but mine was not the only one. Dad was furious and took his shoe off to try to correct the situation and prevent a fight. Now that was pretty stupid because that area of the yard is where I do my evening routine.

Needless to say, Mom got involved and got me to come in the house. Still after I was locked away from the fluffy intruder I went postal pacing to and fro. That of course was not well received and Mom put me in my crate for the night.

I did not forget the visitors and as soon as I was let out that morning I went to the fence but unfortunately were gone. Bummer deal.

BTW – if you have extra ice please bring some to our Casa.   I’m rooting for air conditioning next year but I might have to get a job for that one.

Election and Summer Craziness

IMG_3126Everyone is in an uproar about the election and it is just too ugly to comment on so I will not go there. I will stay in my safe place as so many millennials require.

Today was a good ole fashion lazy day. We all went for a walk and I was very happy. The family has been busy and we have not had any “family” time so I was a happy dog. The day got better as Dad prepared a fun lunch for Auntie Chris. I got to lay outside and enjoy the day.

When the sun came out in full the Parental’s decided to give me a bath and I loved it. I have been itching a lot lately, as I have so many allergies.

I heard that we are going to have some houseguests this summer which makes me even happier since I will be annoying and try and get into the guest room. The twin cousins from New Jersey are coming out here and Dad is taking them to a few potential colleges. I did hear something about a road trip with all of them but I won’t get my hopes up. I hear the Grandunit Batchelors are coming this summer as well which makes me happy as we know I LOVE company!

Maybe all of you should come for a visit. Since the parental’s are having #TheYearofTraveling maybe we should have #SummerVacationwithPerry.

Spring, Easter and New Beginnings

FullSizeRender-2Happy Easter People!  I’m beyond excited this week as it was the beginning of spring, Easter today and the garden is in full form!

Well the parental units have been busy as usual so that they forgot to let the bunny know where my Easter basket was.  However, they did do me right by letting me have a few treats – healthy dog treats vs. the peeps I’ve heard humans like. Then again, I will take any treat I can get away with.

Mom and Dad went to church and I got to stay home and rest…but we know how that goes.  I never rest except after 6 and only if I’ve had a proper walk – after all, a dog needs to get his 10,000 steps in, right?  And I DON’T even need a fitbit or an iWatch to track my steps!

I finally got to try the new snack Mom got at the Natural foods Expo by Pet Naturals called Hip and Joint treat.  Of course I had to pose but I don’t mind as long as I get treats.

The Santa Monica weather has been amazing this week as it was quite a pleasant 73 degrees today when Mom and I had our walk and Dad even joined in as well.

With spring in full swing, the garden is beautiful and the birds and squirrels are making me a little crazy, but hey that is part of my story and backyard…Perry’s playmates.

Enjoy all the wonder life has for you right now!

Version 2Hello Voters?

The Iowa Caucuses are in full swing and we are all waiting with anticipation to find out what the outcome will be.

The 2016 presidential campaign remains a political circus and all the candidates need some Teflon to deflect the mud slinging. The campaign dollars, superpacs, and all the flip-flopping is taking a toll on the American people’s patience.

Hillary is running from the Bern and Ted is trying to cover Donald’s hair with maybe a Canadian flag?? They are all hash tag CRAZY and consuming the air out of the real issues at hand or at least I feel that way. But then again, I am just a dog.

When I go on my walks I try and be kind to all those cross my path. There are dogs of different colors, sizes and breeds, and the little purse dogs make me nervous. But these dogs and their differences is which can make life exciting and visually appealing. If we all looked the same then what would life’s purpose be?

PerryandJeffreyMy wish for all of you this season is to be respectful of people’s choices even if they are not inline with your own. Getting mad, angry or mean is not a Perry approved option.

That’s my political commentary and I am sticking to it. Unless of course it involves peanut butter and then I am checked out.

AND one of my favorite girlfriends Auntie Chris came and chilled with me on Friday night – she came over to celebrate 20 years of friendship with Mom – probably longer than I will be alive and took a picture of Dad and I before she left.

We had some rain today in Santa Monica and lots of wind but Mom and I managed a walk this afternoon so all is well from the Weather Weimaraner!

Tis the Season…

IMG_2883The merry Christmas season is here and I feel lost in all the hustle and bustle.

As always things are moving by quickly and I can barely keep up. I am in the middle of the holiday bloat season or at least that is what I hear Mom blogging about. I love that part of the season especially with all of the cooking and baking going on. Dad and I have been pals with all my little treats and “accident” spills.

He has been hooking me up and I LOVE IT.  He even made Grandma Batchelor’s divinity candy yesterday for the children’s program – WHAT – am I not the child in this family?  At least I got a few little pieces that got dropped but unfortunately I did not get my own serving.  Mom says sugar is not good for my skin and itching but I still think it’s worth it.

This being my 4th Christmas season I am getting seasoned about what this time of the year is all about and what is truly important. It’s about love, life and kindness, and of course good food. The key part of it is how we can encourage and maintain these qualities throughout the upcoming year, and of course health which is important for all my friends.

I know that healthy food and regular exercise will help me feel better as our winter newsletter says, which Mom and intern Liz have been working on.  And I don’t even need an iWatch to tell me to stand up regularly and get exercise because I am always on the go.  I know humans need a reminder as opposed to canines (hence the reason we ARE the better species).

And remember if you want to learn about Motivational Interviewing make sure to sign up now for Mom’s new initial webinar series this Thursday.

It’s been a truly blustery day in Santa Monica and I was hoping Pooh and Piglet would visit.

Peace,

Perry

Tis the Post Turkey Day Recap

IMG_3072I had on my mischievous cap during this season. It all started with that lonely cube of butter hidden on the counter wrapped in holiday foil…

It was so appealing – the shiny paper, beautiful yellow ball  of wonderful fat I haven’t had in a while.

Because I am smarter then Dad, I just laid in wait until the perfect moment arose and bam, I was counter surfing covert style. He was “multi-tasking” and was out of the room for a minute and I scored the prize.

Of course I got a crate time out…actually I put myself in the crate and he came looking for me. He found the butter foil and I was caught.

The next day I was hanging out with Dad while he was making corn bread from scratch.  It was taking him forever to make that delicious gluten free corn bread stuffing and Casa de Perry smelt heavenly. After it cooled on top of the fridge, he wrapped it all up and like a fool hid it behind the mixer. Now that is pretty far for even for my super, stretching capabilities.

I again went into stealth mood…wonder, smell, watch and wait.

I was so good that I did not bark when that Sherlock Holmes dog next store tried to antagonize me. Dad gave me one of my Dental Bones, which are 100% natural, no artificial ingredients, gluten free and made in the USA. I love them!

Shortly after that went down he left to go get something out of the garage. When he came back in he had a big surprise!  Isn’t that photo great? Yep that’s right – I got up in the cornbread and had me a second scooby snack. This was followed with “CRATE!”

The next day was the big Turkey Day. Mom was home and she was monitoring me like a hawk since she is ON to me unfortunately. I did get a few treats but nothing like before.

We had an enjoyable holiday but are working on some new adventures. Mom will be doing some Motivational Interviewing webinars, which I like as she will be home and I will get to lounge with her in the office. I’m still not sure why others need motivation since I need none but again we know canines are superior to humans, and us Weims are the smartest breed..

Hope you all had a nice turkey day and if you have extra butter to spare send it over – covertly of course.

The weather has been colder in Santa Monica so the Weather Weimaraner reports a cooler high of 60 degrees today.  Our house is quite chilly so please send blankets but remember to wrap butter in between.

Love,

Perry

Is it SO HOT here PEOPLE!

IMG_2602I cannot believe that we are having record high temperatures in March, and today is a whopping 90 degrees!  This means in our old house it is in the mid-90’s and does not cool off at night.

I know that the parentals are secretively loving this extreme heat because I cannot move…well I move from one area to the next and just plop myself down with a loud thud. I wish we had a swimming pool.

I was surprisingly perfect this morning. Mom and Dad went out to church and left the crate open. I just hung out in there with the door open. They have been letting me roam around a little bit by myself lately and that is nice. I am trying not to cause too much havoc.

OK – don’t be worried my little campers as you can see I thought Dad was not paying sufficient attention to me so I brought both his running shoes outside again.   He was really good about using his Fitbit last year and then abandoned ship and since today is the LA Marathon I figured I’d light a fire under his feet to get him going again.

Then I thought I would give him an extra run for his money so while he was retrieving his shoes I took his tax pen and chewed it up. Yep- it is grumpy season because it is about taxes.

So we are doing well, heat and taxes aside.

If you haven’t checked out Mom’s most recent blog you should since it is a quite inspiring story about her road trip in snowstorm.

Peace out Perry!

I’m Being Perfect

IMG_1904Yup – Dad left me.  I overheard him telling Mom he needed a break from ME but I guess I deserve it.  I give him a run for his money since when Mom told him a dog would be a lot more work than a cat he said those famous words “it’s just a dog.”

I make it my job to have him continually eat those words, but really?  Did he have to go all the way to Kansas City, MO to get away from me.  AND he went to see that little thing Zade.  Apparently him and Mom are the godparents but Mom chose me.  She decided to stay home with ME while Dad went to the christening so I thought I would show him how much perfectness he missed.

I did not bark today when dogs came by,  I let Mom take a nap since she was tired from her week AND I napped all afternoon in my crate all on my own.  I did not bug her for my dinner like I usually do and she asked me at 4:30 if I wanted to eat so I followed her politely into the kitchen.  I don’t think she believed I was the same dog that lives here.

I think Mom realizes it’s Dad who is the instigator.  HE is the one who riles me up.  So people when you think my mischievous behavior is because I am a Weimaraner it’s really not.  I am smart enough to know when to behave perfectly and when to misbehave when I feel like it.

So there you have it – the weather Weimaraner is reporting perfect behavior and a beautiful sunny day with a temperature of 75 degrees in Santa Monica.

Things can’t get much better than they are now and I realize today that I’m grateful for my life.  Maybe when Dad gets back I’ll try to be a little better behaved so he doesn’t feel the need to go away again.  After all – I would not want him to replace me with one of those baby things.  I really do like children – I just don’t want them to live in my home since I am the ONLY child here.

Birthday Week

IMG_1793In case you’ve forgotten on January 9th, 3 years ago, I was born as a runt to bring joy, love and chaos into the world.  Now we all know I’m a little narcissistic, but nonetheless I do strive to bring happiness and a smile to those who come across my path.  I do realize I have grandiose thoughts most of the time, but that’s why I have the parentals around to keep me in balance.

Let’s recap my progress this year:

1.  As of this morning, I actually was able to go on a walk with Mom and did not pull for the whole first 10 minutes.  Now I was being good since it was Mom and Dad was home so I behaved more than usual.

2.  My recall is slowly improving and I actually put myself to bed last night without being prompted.

3. I don’t require as much supervision and when I do steal a pen I crunch it less often – it’s more about getting attention from Dad since I steal it and run in my crate.  I like to think of it as kind of cat and mouse game, although none of those species live in our house, thank goodness.

4.  I still need improvement on:   sleeping in, since I still get up at the crack of dawn, barking at dogs who walk by my turf, and making more noise than the parentals feel comfortable with when there is a creature in our back yard such as a possum or a squirrel (although the toy squirrel Auntie Chris brought last week has helped and I play with it every day).

When I was supposed to be sleeping last night I did hear Dad say I am becoming a very good dog, and I must be doing something right since the treats have been better than usual.

I want to thank everyone who follows me and my birthday wish is not so much for bones and treats but that each of you has a prosperous 2015.  I especially want to thank my fans in the 73 countries who follow me.  That is what I will wish for when I blow out the candle on my bone later this week!  It’s been quite chilly this week in Santa Monica and I’ve had to hide under the Auntie Tooter blanket more than usual but I’m sure she will like hearing that!

Happy 2015!

Love Perry  AKA the Weather Weimaraner

They Went to The Natural Foods Expo West 2014 Without ME!!

photoI guess I should start with the good since being grateful is what it’s all about, right?  We got some much-needed rain – remember I now am the Weather Weimaraner so this is one of the first things to report.  Our yard is greener but apparently we still need more rain.  I’m just happy since it’s sunny today and 82 degrees in Santa Monica – how’s that for some post Daylight Savings time weather?  We did have a very small earthquake but it did not affect my Perry world so it was fine.

The thing I am NOT so happy about is the parentals got to go to the Natural foods Expo West in Anaheim.  Mom has gone for the past 15 years, Dad apparently does not like to go because of the crowds but Mom makes him and I WANT to go but canines are not allowed.  Can you imagine?  The biggest food show in the WORLD  and I the biggest dog foodie is NOT invited or allowed?  Close to 4000 food booths with endless treats are at that show.  I guess I should be GRATEFUL (there’s that word again) that the parentals thought of me and tried to find me some new healthy treats.

photo-2The humans at Castor & Pollux were apparently the nicest and recognized the large breed that I am and gave Mom a big bag of their Organix Jerky Chip Cookies made of oatmeal and chicken.  All I can say is double YUMMMM!!!  Here I am trying not to attack the bag and then Mom finally opened it for me.  As she’s scripting my blog for me right now I’m at her feet trying to be ultra good to get another one – the good behavior I must have for treats is unimaginable.  I know they are trying to make me a respectable dog but it’s Sunday afternoon and I need a day off.

Later People and pray for more rain in our region of the country.  I don’t want to have to contend with a brown yard since I might be camouflaged!
