Perry Shares the Spotlight

perry zade bdayAs summer is in the end stretch, I continue to have adventures and amaze the parentals with my maturity. Don’t get too excited – I can still prank with the best of them – hence the name Punky!

This morning while Dad was photographing this year’s Thanksgiving card, (Rite-Aid doesn’t have anything on us LOL) Mom and I went on a walk and I can proudly report back I did not pull once. I went easy on her, but if it were Dad he would not be as lucky.

Mom called it a little summer miracle since I walked right next to her – I figured it was time to act respectable since after all – I do live in the People’s Republic of Santa Monica.

Over the last few weeks Dad and I have been hanging out more than usual in the backyard. Actually, to be more exact, he’s been working and I’ve been helping with getting into things and making a mess. I did have a few time-outs this week and all this for a party.

Since the parental units are Baby Zade’s godparents, which I guess makes them god-units, they are having his first birthday party in OUR backyard. Dad is all about milking this godfather thing all the while I am trying to deal with the idea of this party since the backyard is MY territory.

One redeeming fact is at least I was on the invitation. However, I don’ t know what is worse – Dad being obnoxious about the godfather thing or all this over a 1-year-old taking over my backyard. I guess I will do the neighborly thing and let others have a moment in the sun of narcissism.

The weather has been crazy hot, but nice evenings and mornings. We have been eating out side on the patio…yep the parental’s took that over now. I am starting to LEARN life is about sharing and respecting other’s boundaries.

On the sharing note…the Donald is still showing up with his HAIR People!

Peace out Punky

Road Trip

IMG_4181Yep that is right folks – Dad and I took a road trip. Just us guys and boy did we have fun, a little bit of trouble and a lot of homesickness for Mom.

Every year Dad takes me on an excursion to help with training and to get me adjusted more to different situations. I think he just likes to mess with my routine. Nonetheless, I find this outings pretty cool and I am always up for an adventure.

This trip was no exception…as you can see while we were supposed to be cleaning out a Koi pond I decided to “fall” in. I was so scared I just stood there and let all the fish nibble on my long legs. It was a hot day and unfortunately I smelled like the fish after this “swim.”

This trip involved more meet and greets of different animals and lots of children. Of course I was on my bestest behavior.

I did get the chance to hang out at my SLO town club – Thousand Hills Pet Resort. They were very nice and hooked me up with an awesome bath and trimmed my nails perfectly. If you are ever in that area check them out – it helped not to smell like fish for the remainder of the trip, and yes, I do get my omega 3’s elsewhere and had no interest in the fish.

Needless to say, once I got in the car to come home I crashed and for the last few days I have been very mellow and calm. I did hear the parentals talk about how the trip was a success. This makes me glad but I still don’t like long car rides.

The weather is odd here in Santa Monica…balmy, humid, and a little rainy and today the temperature in my casa is 85 degrees, which I am not happy about, but at least I’m home where I love to be.

Peace Out,

Perry

Perry’s Political Corner

FullSizeRender-3Happy 4th of July to all of you out there in the USA!

Even with our country being in a state of flux…

  • Flags are going up, flags are coming down
  • People are trying to rewrite history by moratoriums of 80’s sitcoms such as removing from syndication the Dukes of Hazards and talks of banning the beloved movie Gone with the Wind
  • Political candidates are gathering money from whoever they can to build their war chests
  • Insurance companies are increasing costs as more sick become insured and healthier youth take their chances and don’t get insurance
  • The President makes sure his Mont blanc pen gets exercise by releasing non violent prisoners
  • We are back in Cuba

Oh yeah, Trump continues to get in trouble and it isn’t due to having a bad hair day.

Even with the USA’s family dysfunction we are a country, which is built on freedoms and liberties for one and all. Or at least that is how it should be…a melting pot of cultural diversity laden with respect, kindness and self-responsibility for others.

On another note, I was pretty good on the fireworks front as I had on my ThunderShirt which helped keep me calm and safe amidst all those crazy sounds.  I can’t imagine why the humans like them.  Mom said I’m not a very good gun dog whatever that means since I don’t even know what a gun is.

The weather has been warm and humid with 96% humidity this morning when I checked the weather report.

Peace People,

Perry

Perry Goes Political

FullSizeRenderHello Campers and Political junkies!

This week has been an interesting one charged with many political sightings and hot topics. Since my agent, Aunt Deb Main, suggested I branch out with my insight on this planet here it goes…

As the 2016 Presidential campaign trail heats up in the U.S. its face is changing for sure. I foresee a continual train wreck in the upcoming future in which all of us are going to be subject to a political hot mess in the media with biased opinions and screams for campaign reform.

Democrat front-runner or should we say only runner, Hillary Clinton, was spotted in a Monica Lewinsky blue pant suit hitting the trail. Jeb Bush apparently needs some schooling on how to read a teleprompter and good ole Trump showed up along with his hair to join a soccer size team to toss around nauseating rhetoric.  As a good reporter I’m unbiased and still the undecided voter but apparently it will be a while anyway.  I will be much older in dog years before the election so I’m not worried yet…

Sit tight electoral it is definitely going to be a bumpy ride.

SCOTUS decided that ACA was law, which means POTUS was pleased and I am still confused by all these acronyms. All I know is I am glad I have my insurance through VPI, aka Veterinary Pet Insurance

But the Supreme Court was busy last week as it appears to be the only branch of government working (congress is always out to lunch and the senate just seems to ramble on) Hmm…maybe they should have to have some ACA with their TPP deal.

Anyways, everyone now can get married, which means we made the White house a colorful flag while we took down a confederate flag.

I still cannot get married…so what’s up with that?

Young children are now getting into trouble as they start to sell sugar and salt because their school lunches are too bland. I guess capitalism still reigns somewhere in this country.

Finally, a beautiful side note…after the horrendous killing of the bible study class in South Carolina, some family members were able to express their forgiveness for the shooter’s heinous crimes. Maybe there is still hope in this topsy-turvy country we call home!

OK, that is all on the Perry Political front. Oh yeah the weather in Santa Monica was a breezy 73 degrees today so all is well in our land, or at least for now.

Peace out Perry!

Another Dog Day

IMG_2176What a crazy weekend and it was all the Parental’s fault! You know sometimes they really get on my last nerve.

I have been trying to do my best. Yes, I am STILL a puller on the walks, and the squirrels get me all fired up and finally it is always about me and ALWAYS WILL BE PEOPLE!

I knew something was up when Dad started his craziness around the house earlier this week. I love it because it sort of misted which caused a sufficient amount of wet dirt and he was cleaning the floors.

He becomes insane when I start running in the house like a 4-wheel drive canine making sure I hit all the corners and baseboards with my muddy feet especially after he cleans them. He has become so used to my power of turning up the rugs he now just leaves them that way until Mom gets home. It is cool because subconsciously I am turning the house into my huge dog den most days.

Then on Thursday he started cooking and this calmed me down. I was poised in the kitchen as the sous chef waiting patiently for the treats he so lovingly hands out.

After about 5 hours of cooking he rested and Mom came home. They were talking about the recipe tasting with her interns from Pepperdine University and I was excited because that meant people and extra love, hugs and pets.

IMG_2190But oh no! They had the audacity to mention Tutu and even asked me if I wanted my lady friend to come over for a visit. I promptly gave the stink eye look and they knew I was not pleased.

Well of course like all parentals they did not respect my wishes and allowed that heavy breathing Darth Vader of a bulldog on my turf.

She sauntered in with a swagger and didn’t even say hello. Next thing they wanted to have us take pictures together.

NOT! We are not taking prom photos here people. Then she became obsessed with Dad as he was giving her attention. He did try to give us both affection but the Tutu would put her bossy body in the way and block me from Dad. Well I wasn’t having any of that and when she got too close to me I growled at her. That will learn her I thought.

Of course I got into trouble for not loving my neighbor routine. Oh well at least I put her in her place and she pretty much avoided me the rest of the night.

IMG_2195Don’t get too excited since she got her payback. During dinner I had to have a timeout as I felt I needed to be involved at the table putting my nose on it next to people out of Mom and Dad’s reach. As you can imagine they both were not well with this “inappropriate” behavior and I was banished to the crate.

Then all of a sudden I heard Dad yell at the Tutu. What! He lost his cookies and I was not there to see.

You see the mean girl took my favorite nooking blanket (my sucky) and shredded it under the dinning room table.

She is off the Christmas card list for sure!

The saving grace of the evening was Mom’s 3 beautiful interns Farah, Antonella and Nora who all helped out in the office – I did get my share of hugs, loves and pets.  However, I was beyond tired when they all left as you can see me sprawled out on my favorite chair!

Perry – Zero the Tutu 1 game on!

It has been humid here in Santa Monica, and June Gloom is definitely in full spring.

I’m A Sensitive Dog

IMG_2699Hello All,

We are in the thick of the gray fog, cool mornings and sun in the afternoon. We call it “June Gloom” and it can be more than a little melancholy. For most of the country it is the start of summer but here in LA it feels like the end as the drought is taking its toll and we are living in the land of brown.

I have been doing much better. I am starting to be left by myself out of the crate for up to 6 hours now.  Do you hear that people!

Of course this is not all the time but I can tell Dad is trusting me more and I love it. I get to lounge and have been good (knock on wood) with not wanting to destroy things or the house. Apparently the parental units did a fairly good job with my training. And if I need time in my crate the door is open and I just hang out in there of my own free will.

However, we all know how sensitive my skin is and again I have been having some skin problems. Last week while I was away I came back with a quarter size bump on my chin. Mom has been hooking me up with some essential oil application and it seems to help. Unfortunately it’s the oregano oil, so I smell like pizza but it does seem to be helping my owie.

I did hear the parentals are leaving again to BACK to Visalia and I will go to my camp and I am excited about that.

Life is mellowing out. I am almost 3.5 years and finally starting to settle down. But don’t let that fool any of you. I am still a crazy Weimaraner who can run and cause havoc with the best of them.  I just know how to calm myself down when I need to which I why I have my blanket in sight at all times as you can see.

Peace People,

Perry

Dad Has lost his Mind!

IMG_2712I had a break from the parental units this past week and it was most excellent. I got to hang out in the country and play/run around with my people. However, as I am getting older (almost 3½) I am a little more chilled.

Mom was teaching people Motivational Interviewing this week at a wonderful place called Family HealthCare Network in Visalia, California. I hear it is by the Sequoia National Park which is very beautiful, although I have not visited there yet. Dad was impressed this town did not have ANY parking meters like they do everywhere else and the people were really nice.

However, thank goodness Dad did not get me a gift. He wanted to bring back a baby Pygmy goat for me as an early Christmas present. Can you imagine? A little bigger PITA all up in my grill daily – that’s all I need! Not a good option. Apparently pops had a little crush and Mom was even on board. Traders!

Thank goodness Dad came to his senses after he did his usual investigation to ad nauseam and found out his little furry friends would have been more problem then cuteness. Saved by the bell!

Plus, I would not want to share the spotlight…my video of my head in the box has had 1,100 views and that is way cool for this dog.

The weather has been pleasant 65 degrees in Santa Monica.  Summer is almost here!

Peace out Perry!

Everyone’s on MY Schedule

punkytreatsThat’s right.  I’m up at 6 am or 5:30 like I was this morning.  NO one sleeps in at our house.  What is with these parentals?   Dad was not happy with me this morning and Mom got to sleep in a little but then I proceeded to walk up and down the hall shaking my head till she got up at 7 am.   It’s gotten to the point where Dad has to take a nap every afternoon to recover from my morning routine.

I thought it was time to check in on my current report card and needs for improvement.

The Good:

1.  I have been left outside my crate multiple times up to 5 hours without any disturbance in the house.  When Mom and Dad come home I am sitting politely in my chair or in my crate of my own accord.  I still have not graduated to full access status but hopefully soon.

2.  I have not chewed any pens for quite some time.  I never did go to pen’s anonymous but somehow I was able to get over my addiction on my own. Dad left a pen on the table this past week when I was home alone and I noticed it but decided to leave it alone since I’ve been a bit naughty in other areas (below).

3.  I continue to be loving to all those I meet (minus the squirrels) and allow every child and adult to pet and love on me when I meet them.

Needs for Improvement:

1.  I still continue to pull on the leash when we walk.  I’m not sure I will ever outgrow that one.

2.  When Mom and Dad are home (as opposed as when they are gone) I become a bit unruly and want constant attention all the time.  I still drag all the things out of my “toy chest” and string them all over the house.

3. I “stole” the new scooby snack bag my new blonde friend Debra brought last weekend (it was mine remember) and ate the entire bag in the backyard while Mom and Dad were watching one of their shows.  My dinner was delayed that night since I had more than a full tummy.

4.  I continue to bark at squirrels and dogs walking by my house (how dare they come near my domain?)

I know to the parentals it feels like I’m not improving sometimes.  Mom commented that I am 32 in human years and needed to act more mannerly – asking for my treats, letting her sleep in since it is a rare occasion and being the “show” dog that I was designed to be.  Maybe some day, but not this week.

It was a beautiful day today in Santa Monica although we are having a little pre “June Gloom” as they call it which is fine with me since it’s cooler on my walks.

Happy Memorial Day to all of you and try not to eat too much at those BBQ’s or at least save some of the treats for me.  I’m still trying to get more treats today as you can see by this picture. It’s my favorite place to sit for whatever yummy bite drops of a new recipe I can get my chops on.

Perry Prefers Blondes

IMG_2694I know people it has been a few weeks since I have shared my adventures with all of you but I have been busy and a little self-absorbed which is nothing new of course.

Over Mother’s Day weekend my Mom was out-of-town visiting family in NJ while my Auntie Wendy came for a visit. It was so nice considering she is a blonde and you know my infatuation with the ladies in general –especially blonds. She was so fun to hang out with and she got Dad out of the house…

We went for a long walk along the beach in Venice and saw all the peoples on the boardwalk, which made me happy because I got extra attention from strangers. It was a lazy weekend and I was a little sad as I missed my mommy but she had a good time with her aunts and grandma.

When Mom got back, we had to prepare for a houseguest who was coming for one of Mom’s MI trainings and guess what?   She was blonde as well, so I was in blonde heaven!

I just want to report that I have been a good boy for the most part…my only real weakness is that squirrel PITA who continually irritates me by hanging out on the fence making squeaky noises which gets me really going. He goes back and forth on the fence to taunt me so I finally have to get outside and chase him. …perhaps he is not a safe friend.

One bad thing did happen and I got into more than a little trouble with Dad. However, it really was not ALL my fault. Henry (the dog next store who looks like a little Sherlock Holmes) likes to start fights with me. He prances across the driveway and up to MY windows, and barks which really gets my goat.

This week Dad and I got home from an errand and I was trying to wait for the signal to get out of the car. Suddenly I saw that little thing lying in wait and I took off. Of course Dad was using his outside voice to calm me down but the adrenaline kicked in and we were off.

The next thing I realized in my fit of angst was I was on a leash without a parental holding on and I took advantage and tore off down the street. This made Dad crazy and he screamed for me to come back. There were cars in the street which to my credit I did avoid but what really got me going was when he yelled, “fine go kill yourself” and turned around and walked away.

What? Did he did not care?

Then I got a little nervous so I turned around and ran back to him. I realized he must have been using some reverse psychology, but it worked.

Dad 1 – Perry 0

The weather in Santa Monica is a cloudy 65 degrees today. We are thankful it did rain a few inches, which were desperately needed in Los Angeles to help our drought situation. Please send water if you have any to spare.

Peace,

The Lazy Days of Spring…

IMG_2687Do you see this look on my face people? Yep – that is right I want to play and do something of substance and it seems the parental’s want a mellow day! What on earth is a mellow day? Seriously, if I am moving and getting into all sorts of trouble why cannot my pack follow suit?

As usual at Casa de Perry we have been on the go. Mom last weekend was in Albuquerque, New Mexico speaking at a Sweet Success conference to the Navajo Diabetes Educators. Apparently she had a good time WITHOUT me since I’m not allowed to travel on planes. I’m not so great in the car so planes might be challenging for me.

Next week Mom is off to Massachusetts again for another Motivational Interviewing training and then to see Auntie Marjorie in New Jersey. Dad and I will be staying at home to have a boy’s week, which I love because that means extra snacks and playtime in the house.

After Mom gets back they are planning a few trainings in Central California, which I am excited about because I will get to hang out in the country.  I’m not sure what the motivating is all about since I’m plenty motivated to do what needs to be done so I”m not sure why these humans need that?  Shows we are still the superior race!

I did hear Dad talk about maybe going up to SLO in July to visit my grandparents and hang out with family up there. I do like a good road trip, although it requires that car thing again.  Hmmm…

Well that is a quick update folks so back to lounging on this mellow weekend. Probably a lot of people are having a mellow weekend because it was a big one with the Kentucky Derby and the Mayweather / Pacquiao fight which we did not watch either.

The weather in Santa Monica is a bright, warm 75 degrees. By the way, did I tell you Mom keeps looking at her wrist? She’s more than a bit obsessed with her new thing I believe they call an Apple Watch. Apparently she’s one of the only people in town that seems to have one. She says it helps her keep track of her “steps” whatever that means.  I’m not sure why it’s important since I get LOTS Of those but as long as that shiny thing is not more special than ME!
