Hands Free Leash

IMG_2320Hello Folks,

Like always life continues and on really good weeks funny things happen that cause us to laugh and so here’s one that’s really FUNNY!

The parentals occasionally receive a product from companies who want them to try things out and blog about it or give feed back. Since Mom is the queen of blogging, tweeting and instragramming we get a few items here and there.

This week it was about a leash. I was excited because that means I can push Dad to the limit and he like me does not like to have his routine messed up. We were getting ready for our walk and I heard Mom yell out, “don’t forget to try out the Hands Free Leash.”

Of course Dad grumbled something along the lines with “you try out the leash” and I knew I had him, ready, set, match.

He looked at the box and opened up this bright green package. I could see from his expression he was not pleased one bit.

  • It had a big strap with zippers, pouches and a clasp.
  • I saw him really search in the small box for instruction and there were none.
  • In his confusion he tried to put the fanny pack belt on me.

The absolute best part was when you realized he was supposed to wear the fanny pack belts and I was to be hooked up with the leash part. It was hilarious, as I know how much Dad has an aversion to fanny packs.

Next we stepped outside attached literally at the hip. Boy it was AWESOME People he had no control over me and I took off, next thing I looked back and he was using his outside voice.  I then saw a nice family walking by our yards and I just stood perfect. (You see when people are around I am flawless for the compliments).

Dad on the other hand was embarrassed, tangled up and definitely not having a good exercise moment. I knew the walk was over before we hit the end of the driveway so I ran back to the house. My swiftness whipped Dad around and this made the veins stick out in his neck.

Once inside and untangled I heard him share his thoughts with Mom about the Hand Free Leash…

“ This would have been perfect during months 7-12 when he had to be tethered to us in the house all the time”. (You see I was always getting into stuff so they kept me on the inside leash).

“This would work well for a little purse dog”

and my favorite…NOT

“The leash would be PERFECT (he gave me a glance of frustration) if the dog walked nice and doesn’t PULL”.

Who cares what he thinks, it was really cool pulling Dad up and down the driveway.

Perry 1 – Dad big fat zero!

So the verdict on the Hands Free Leash…

Works great if you have a dog that enjoys to leisurely walk or if you run. Also, nice compartments for a water bottle and a well sized pouch for keys, phone or money. Finally, it is made with quality materials and is apparently self instructional unless my Dad is trying it on.  And perfect for puppies who need to be tethered all the time while inside like I was when I was of course MUCH younger.

OK, people as you can see I am tired and there was no way I was trying that thing on again.

Oh – almost forgot.  It was a beautiful fall day in Santa Monica.

I’m Growing UP

DSC01297Hello People!

Things here on the home front are pretty good. The weather has cooled down to a nice autumn crisp so on our walks we need to move a little more quickly to keep warm. The current temp this weekend is a light, cloudy 73 degrees.

Other fun things on the forefront…Dad and I spent sometime photographing fresh ginger from the Farmer’s Market as you can see from the photo I am slowly but surely becoming a better-behaved dog.  Mom says fresh ginger is good for many things besides just seasoning – it helps GERD (I’m not sure what that is but something to do with stomach issues), and morning sickness which thank goodness I will never have in my lifetime (although I do love pregnant women and babies especially).

Can you believe the door is open and I am not door dashing out like in my youth. Yep- my birthday is coming up and we all cannot believe how much time has gone by and just how quickly the months turn into years.

We have a new RD intern from Italy named Antonella and I cannot wait to meet her next week – Mom says she’s talented, pretty and knows how to cook yummy dishes so I’m all about meeting her!

All in all, thank goodness for a calm week!

The Tutu

IMG_1210The blind date did not go over very well…

Yep – the parental units decided it would be OK to bring in a “lady friend” for a visit.

As usual, it is like most weekends around here and with a lot of work and always doing something going on.

Mom and her RD intern Farah from Pepperdine needed to work on some social media business, blogs and recipes. And we all know, I like anything that sounds social and of course I long for the media attention. Farah has a dog and she was to hang out with me.

Don’t get too excited yet since it wasn’t…umm…all that fun and special.

Her name was Tutu and she was little, compact, a bit bossy and a princess-like, and it was it a long afternoon with my play date.

IMG_1218First she had this loud breathing noise, then she stole my bone and finally she got a little bossy with me.

I admit I was afraid of the Tutu and hung outside. When Dad got home I walked way around the girl who stole my bone. Look at my face in the photo folks. The Tutu had some power, and my ego-strength was lacking a bit.

Even with being thrown off today I still got my hang out time with Farah, who I love and would prefer that she just be my lady friend.

Farah also helped Mom out this week when she was interviewed for ABC Channel 7 news on camel milk. Glad I was not part of that since I think the camel would have frightened me more than Tutu. However, we know I am a complete foodie and I would have been game to try the milk.

At the end of the day Farah and Tutu left and as I watched her walk away perfectly mannered off leash she turned back and smiled. It was almost like she said, “see how cute I am and I have manners so there.”

IMG_1223Hmm…I sure have a lot to learn still. But I like that no leash thing so we’ll have to see how I convince the parental’s to let me try that sometime.

I almost forgot – the weather has been MUCH better and today it was a lovely 74 degrees in Santa Monica.

Peace!

News Report from Santa Monica

IMG_9552Hello People!

What a crazy week and boy am I glad it is over. So many things happened and I want to share it all so I will try to be brief.

The weather in Santa Monica was so hot, it broke records and it made me crazy. I am blessed that I have no hair compared to other canines but this was even a bit much for me.

It was especially challenging this week because I had to spend extra time at my club while the parentals worked away. Little did they know I just lounged and did not exert myself too much until I got home, and then expected Dad to play with me.

It’s mostly Mom’s fault since she had to do a Motivational Interviewing Workshop in Long Beach for Memorial Care and Dad went with her so I was at my club for 11 hours and that made me crazy. I let Dad know once we got into the house by running and grabbing him to come outside and play.

On a serious note the Boles fire in Weed California this last week was very sad and lots of people lost their homes, churches, and businesses.  I know I am narcissistic so my little whines are nothing compared to these people’s tragedies. Please continue to pray for the victims and donate to help. They have nothing left but it is a strong community and they will endure.

However, that brings us to this weekend, which was totally awesome. There was a moment of time out as I was not as perfect as I should be.

The parental units are now recipe testing, and you know what that means? Yeah to more scooby snacks! I get way excited when I see food come into the house.

This weekend was really fun because cousin Barbara came over to help and she brought me a gift from “Mama Tooter.” But before I could have my gift I got into trouble because I chewed on the cousin’s purse while she had it on. Come on she was not giving me sufficient attention and I was selfish. I did get a long time out so I guess I had better be on my bestest behavior the next time she comes.

IMG_9617But, then I got let out and was good and got my cool gift. And guess what it was? My very own handmade afghan made with love. I know it is the bomb because I heard the parental units admire the color and wanted it for themselves, especially since I always steal the one that was made for them.

Rest assured that was not going to happen as I took control of the situation. I would not let them even help me untie it. I took off and ran around the yard with it in my mouth for a while so they would know not to take it away.

Also, my little buddy Zade came over to hang out today. I just love him…he has that new baby smell still …maybe I will even share my blankie with him, but that remains to be seen.  I’m a bit jealous since the parentals got asked to be his godparents but I guess I’ll have to get over myself since it means I will have a little playmate as he gets older.

OK, stay out of trouble or at least don’t get caught like I did.

Love,

Perry the Troublemaker

My Own Video Shoot

photoThus far it has been an excellent weekend. I am carefree and just being able to hang out and relax. Now of course the parental units are working away as usual so I am trying to be on my bestest behavior. Of course we will see how long that lasts.

Anywho…I got a wonderful surprise this morning when I saw Dad getting out all his camera equipment. That usually means it will be a photo shoot and I will get to be part of the activities. Plus if I get bored or do not approve I can cause havoc and that makes him spin out which is always a pleasure to watch.

Then all of a sudden I heard him ask if I was going to be a good Punky and be helpful.

What? I am going to be the talent?

It gets EVEN better since he was shooting product and it was MY FAVORITE PEOPLE, Peanut Butter! Did you hear me? Peanut Butter and a great organic one at that – Koeze’s Sweet Ella Organic Peanut Butter – Mom’s favorite! Normally I’m not allowed to eat that one unless I’m good and she gives me a lick.

photo-2You can tell I have grown up because I followed Dad’s commands and did not take the jar away to eat in privacy. It did take a long time on the set but I was patient because I was not having a spoon full – I had an entire jar just for me. I was in Peanut Butter heaven.

Then after shooting I just wanted to chill because it is really hot here in Southern California. Todays temp in Santa Monica is 83 degrees and rising.

OK, so there you have it for Perry check in.

Be safe, stay out of trouble or at least do not get caught. Apparently I always get caught but I still know I am loved.

Peace out People!

photoYou know I am all about a good laugh. Seriously though, I work the parentals until they break and end up laughing. OK, Dad is much easier to do this with especially during our standoffs. He tries to stare me down and ends up laughing because I am a comic at heart. Here I am at one of our standoffs yesterday in the yard. I have enough ego strength to see how regal I’m looking, so I shared this SELFIE

Of course I am not nearly as good as the late Joan Rivers who passed this last week but I do try and be fashionable and make people laugh. RIP, late red carpet lady…

As for news in general we have been clearing the clutter, cleaning out drawers and closets. Even though it is not spring time we are trying to purge and donate stuff we do not need. Dad is always saying to his clients they need to do a mass purge before 65. I do not quite understand that because no one in this house is even close to that age, especially me in dog years.

I have been so good that I got to the office a few times last week. It is exciting to go in and see the interns and clients. However, I do get a little bored and want to go when there is not enough people coming and going. Dad said it is a goal to stay there for more then 4 hours so I’m working up to that.

Something really cool happened on Friday – the washing machine broke and poured tons of water out on the kitchen floor. It was awesome because I made muddy dog prints all over the floor while Dad was trying to clean up the mess. At one point I wanted to play tug of war with the wet towels and that went over like a lead balloon.

OK, I need to get back to the weekend and starring down my favorite friend and squirrel PITA . The days are becoming shorter which means less summer fun but it is a pleasant 82 degrees in Santa Monica.

Peace,

Punky

My Busy Week

photo-2Hello People!

This has been one fun busy week with lots of new people involved!

As you are well aware Mom does these Motivational Interviewing workshops but I don’t need motivation so not sure why anyone else would?? The important thing is she’s meeting all these fun people and I got to visit one group this week at Westside Family Health Center. The best part was Dad and I walked there since it’s close to the house, I got my picture taken with all the fun folks AND of course all pets and loves were abundant so no complaints here.

photo-3Next, I got to spend some quality time with my little friend Miami who came over to play and give me more love and attention. It’s been hot so we spent some time hanging out on the cool floor and I hope she comes back soon with her pretty Mom Jennifer. The little people always have more energy than the older parentals so they are always welcome in Casa de Perry.

And finally the parental units had to go to San Bernardino to do another Motivational Interviewing training at weCare, a group of pharmacists helping people with diabetes. Since it was far and they needed a nice place for the day for me for the day, I got to hang out at the Pooch Hotel. It is a really cool with lots of fun people and fellow four-legged friends. They even have a swimming pool but I did not get to go into that room. Maybe next time.

And finally I watched Dad pack up my crate and put it in the car. I overheard them talk about how him and I were going to go up to SLO to visit his parental units for a couple of days. I’m excited about going up the coast but not about the car ride.

The weather has been humid and muggy here in Santa Monica so nothing all that interesting from the Weather Weimaraner today.

Love and till next week,

Perry

No Baby is Going to Steal my Stage

muddytoyThis was a most interesting week. Mom’s been bragging about one of her Pepperdine interns Victoria who helped out a lot of on her website…but remember all I really care about is MY website and MY blog. Who cares about Mom’s sites?

Well, I finally got to meet Victoria and her husband Mark since they are having a baby soon and Dad was taking pictures. They brought a toy for the pictures and I was not having any of it. I saw that toy, went into the bedroom and took it out of the bag and paraded with it in the back yard. I even dropped it in the mud – that will show Dad to pay attention to someone else besides me.

I really am a nice dog – it just seems when I am not the center of attention something comes over me and I have to make it ABOUT me! Maybe it’s some sort of dysfunction in my canine brain or that I have a slightly narcissistic breed?

Anyway, Dad got so angry and I knew it since the veins were popping out, and I was afraid I wouldn’t survive this one. Uncle Andrew was helping to take the pictures and he tried to calm everyone, and his picture gets featured today due to my bad behavior . Anyway, Mom got home and put me in the crate and it was all over.

IMG_9237I guess I’m thankful Dad was able to restore the toy to it’s almost newish self. I’m more thankful I’m the only child in this household.

I promise more interesting ventures soon. Dad is starting a new cookbook that is going to have some really COOL delicious recipes and I will be sharing those with you very soon if I don’t drool over all the recipes beforehand.

And I almost forgot – it’s very odd weather today in Santa Monica – there’s been a LITTLE bit of rain, some very scary lightening which I am NOT used to and a partly-cloudy 75 degrees.

The Weather Weinaraner is signing off for this week.

Peace!

It’s about Mom this Week

photoUnfortunately this week is NOT about me.  Dad says it’s a nice change in the Dopart-Batchelor house since I may become too narcissistic.

Isn’t that what dogs are all about?  I’m not sure he knows this so maybe I just need to reinforce how the household works.  Maybe if I sulk here with the Mama Tooter blanket someone will feel sorry for me.

Mom redid her website and it’s all brand new.  The only reason she even knew how to navigate word press is because of my blog, but no one’s mentioning that.

So I guess I have to advertise for her this week.  If you want to take a look it’s actually pretty cool and much more complicated than my site.  If you want to know anything about nutrition and health here’s the place to go, but IF you just happen to want to know more about me, dogs, and dog nutrition just stay on my page.

The weather in Santa Monica this week is nothing to brag about – it seems to have reverted to June Gloom, although the sun is peeking out right now and it’s 73 degrees.  Much more next week my peeps!

Here’s to love and world peace!

Happy Coffee Weekend!

photo-2This weekend was very exciting and just a little bit of craziness. As you know the parental units are working away at some project or another but my energy level keeps me going…and well as everyone else in the house. That’s right folks – I still have my troublemaker self going strong which keeps them on their toes.

Like this morning – my itchy skin is back so I decided they had sufficient sleep and started my licking at 4:30 AM. I mean seriously, I went to bed at 8:30 last night and had my rest, but I want them on my schedule.

Dad was cool and got up with me and we went to the living room to let Mom rest. He was even patient with me and covered my feet with the blanket. It was pretty funny him using me as a pillow. He fell back asleep and we rested. OK, I was sort of cool and let him cruise through some Z’s but just for a short time. Then I woke him at 5:30 with a big load yawn in his face.

He mumbled something about my bad breath and we finally got up…

Next we went on a big walk and I got to see some of the neighborhood PITAS and that really got Dad walking. I was good and did not pull too much but those “friends” really get me going. They did not squeak like #1 PITA in the backyard.

Then things got really exciting since we went to Bar Nine Collective, a cool coffee-house in Culver City. My friend Zayde had the vision for making and serving the perfect cup of coffee and he made it happen. They even had a nice water dish for us canines.  I did get a little miffed since Dad got a yummy cookie and I did NOT since the canine cookies are at home.

With all this fun I had to have a serious moment. I hear there is a lot going on in the world lately and that makes me wonder, but glad I do not have to deal with it too much. We need to pray for people’s safety here in the US and to all my friends in other countries.

I mean I kept hearing about a “photo op” and got really excited. I love photo ops, so if any of you including the president wants one with me I will clear my calendar and pencil you in! You know me I love the attention people!

photoWell anyways, back to work folks!  We never really stop because there is always a project, which I love because I get to be a part of my pack.  I wasn’t getting quite enough attention as Dad was cooking this afternoon so I stole the Cook’s Illustrated magazine – LOTS of good eats in there but somehow Dad was not too happy with me.

So there you have it my life, some news and I am happy to report a warm, sunny 75 degrees here in Santa Monica.

Peace,

Punky
