I’m Being Perfect

IMG_1904Yup – Dad left me.  I overheard him telling Mom he needed a break from ME but I guess I deserve it.  I give him a run for his money since when Mom told him a dog would be a lot more work than a cat he said those famous words “it’s just a dog.”

I make it my job to have him continually eat those words, but really?  Did he have to go all the way to Kansas City, MO to get away from me.  AND he went to see that little thing Zade.  Apparently him and Mom are the godparents but Mom chose me.  She decided to stay home with ME while Dad went to the christening so I thought I would show him how much perfectness he missed.

I did not bark today when dogs came by,  I let Mom take a nap since she was tired from her week AND I napped all afternoon in my crate all on my own.  I did not bug her for my dinner like I usually do and she asked me at 4:30 if I wanted to eat so I followed her politely into the kitchen.  I don’t think she believed I was the same dog that lives here.

I think Mom realizes it’s Dad who is the instigator.  HE is the one who riles me up.  So people when you think my mischievous behavior is because I am a Weimaraner it’s really not.  I am smart enough to know when to behave perfectly and when to misbehave when I feel like it.

So there you have it – the weather Weimaraner is reporting perfect behavior and a beautiful sunny day with a temperature of 75 degrees in Santa Monica.

Things can’t get much better than they are now and I realize today that I’m grateful for my life.  Maybe when Dad gets back I’ll try to be a little better behaved so he doesn’t feel the need to go away again.  After all – I would not want him to replace me with one of those baby things.  I really do like children – I just don’t want them to live in my home since I am the ONLY child here.

Happy Heart Day People!

dark-Chocolate0121I do not mean healthy heart though all of you should be getting your omega 3 fats and phytochemcials to help create a happy heart in addition to exercise which I love myself.  I could run all day long if allowed but city living in Santa Monica does not value this, besides my lack of car awareness is a big detriment.

What I mean is Valentine’s Day is coming up. Yes there is The Tutu, Viva and a few other admirers but I have to keep myself open to my adoring fans. I am a little sad that I cannot tank up on chocolates even though dark Chocolate 85% or higher has lots of healthy flavonols.  Dark chocolate is far healthier than milk chocolate which Mom does not allow in our house. So all you need to remember that when purchasing your sweethearts’ candy since the greatest sweetness in life is health and vitality, something I’m well aware of hanging out in the Dopart-Batchelor household.

I have been minding myself lately and not getting into too much trouble. I did have  a few more timeouts than I would like because my protective instinct of barking when I see another dog on a leash outside my house makes me go insane.

On that note I have a new PITA…the little thing looks like a Sherlock Holmes dog.  He does not like me very much and is an EXTREME instigator. He gets me really going but I suppose he’s meant to teach me patience, something I’m not all that good at.  Maybe when I’m 4 or 5.

OK, it is getting late and it is Grammy Day – I’m hoping to catch Madonna if it’s not past my bedtime.  The weather in Santa Monica was a bit cloudy today but I’m thankful it’s not like Siberia like my Boston cousins.

Peace out Perry

Super Bowl 2015

IMG_1876Hello Sports Fans…I hope that this Super Bowl weekend was fun and that your favorite team won. If they did not win I at least hope that you enjoyed the commercials or the halftime show. I believe Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz did a good job.

I did not really pay too much attention as I was also hanging out with one of my lady friends…The Tutu. Yep – she came over and of course she stole my bone AGAIN but it was cool as I had more important things to do outside.

I thought leaving her alone and staying out of her way would be best but NO she came looking for me and ended up finding me outside. We hung out for a little, but her heavy breathing is a bit much and it sort of scares me like Darth Vader, but I’m trying to be braver as I am almost 3 times her size.

Also, this weekend the weather was perfect so I got to really enjoy my walks.

Since Mom writes her own blog I’m trying to support her and develop mindful eating. She wrote one on the Super Bowl being the second largest eating day in the US behind Thanksgiving so I tried to be an intuitive eater today amidst all the treats.

Ohms for the Poor

IMG_3390We all know that I am a creature of habit…

  • I can differentiate from the vegetable and cheese drawer in a dead of sleep
  • Daily I let the parentals know it is mealtime by adjusting my annoying announcement by a minute both AM and PM to coincide with the sun
  • At 8:30 every night I move from the chair to my lounge bed in the living room
  • I come running when I know if they are cutting an apple and I go immediately to my apple eating spot
  • I am so smart that I know when the parental’s are rushed in the morning and I put myself in the crate
  • I know when Mom is around the corner coming home at night and start waiting for her arrival

I could go on and on….

But nightly when it is dinnertime I lay patiently because I know Dad always saves me a little “treat.” This has been going on for over a year now. He gets up, I run to my spot, he dumps it in my bowl and I have to wait drooling (which seems like FOREVER) while he rinses the dishes and then he says OK and I get to eat.

Well they are trying to mess up my routine. Last night he did not save me anything! Can you believe that? So I tried to look as pathetic as possible… my ”ohms for the poor” look and it still did not work.

Dad finally 1 Perry 0

No worries people, you know the saying payback is a …..

So the Weather Weimaraner is reporting a beautiful sunny day in the 70’s – can’t get much better January weather than that!

Have a great week.

Happy Birthday Weekend

IMG_3376That’s right folks – it was yet another birthday and this one was Mom’s. We sure did have a nice time and I think she had a great day.

First I thought I would be a little considerate and let her sleep in without doing my usual routine of coming next to her side of the bed and start my scratching, shaking my big ears and licking my legs. I waited a little longer (really it is about the time and as we move towards daylight savings I get up about a minute later each day)

Once everyone was up our usual Saturday morning started with breakfast, a trip to Farmers Market (of course I did not get the chance to see people or the wonderful organic vegetables but when Dad came home he did take me for a walk).

Mom went out with her friend for lunch to Seasons 52 – a Century City restaurant that has food with the seasonal changes – and us guys stayed home and prepared a cool gluten-free meal for mom.

FullSizeRenderI love cooking in the kitchen with Dad. We made zucchini lasagna and a zucchini sour cream pie. I know we hooked it up good because when Mom came home she said the house-smelled great and she sampled our hard work.

After dinner I lounged, Dad watched some TV and Mom did some work. Even with birthdays we still have stuff to do. We are a working family with lots of projects but we do appreciate our birthday gifts and that is being a family and appreciating our blessings.

The weather was a beautiful sunny 70 degrees Santa Monica for Mom’s birthday. Not to be too narcissistic but her day was much more beautiful than my birthday but I’ll give that to her this year.

The Weather post birthday Weimaraner signing off.

Peace!

Dealing with the Drought in Santa Monica

IMG_1499I thought it was a travel cup. I mean seriously – if there is any sort of vessel that contains water I am on it. I would much rather consume my fluids out of something other than my water bowl.

OK, here is the back story. Dad is on one of his projects and this one is called “conserving water.” Most of you know California is in a serious drought and even with the current rain we are still having problems. To make matters worse the republic of Santa Monica (as some people call it) are not only being faced with water rations, but a water increase over the next five years at 13% each year.

Ok – now back to the story.  Dad thinks we need to try to use our water wisely. His plan is pretty brilliant and I get the opportunity to be involved with the process. So there is now a 5 gallon bucket in the tub, and when anyone takes a shower they must turn the water on and fill the bucket with the cold water.  Once the water gets warm they turn on the shower and push the bucket out-of-the-way.

The best part is when dad has to take the bucket outside to water the plants. I get so excited since I want to drink the cold water. Well this morning I plunged my head into the bucket, dad lost his balance, and some of the water spilled out on the wood floor.

I don’t know what the big deal was since I had already put muddy footprints all over the floor due to the rain. Wasn’t this considered a win-win? But NOOOO it was like I had flooded the entire house according to the parentals.

OK, so the floor is clean, we are saving water and today is the Golden Globes.  You already can guess the weather report so I won’t bore you with it this week.

Peace and Love,

Perry

Birthday Week

IMG_1793In case you’ve forgotten on January 9th, 3 years ago, I was born as a runt to bring joy, love and chaos into the world.  Now we all know I’m a little narcissistic, but nonetheless I do strive to bring happiness and a smile to those who come across my path.  I do realize I have grandiose thoughts most of the time, but that’s why I have the parentals around to keep me in balance.

Let’s recap my progress this year:

1.  As of this morning, I actually was able to go on a walk with Mom and did not pull for the whole first 10 minutes.  Now I was being good since it was Mom and Dad was home so I behaved more than usual.

2.  My recall is slowly improving and I actually put myself to bed last night without being prompted.

3. I don’t require as much supervision and when I do steal a pen I crunch it less often – it’s more about getting attention from Dad since I steal it and run in my crate.  I like to think of it as kind of cat and mouse game, although none of those species live in our house, thank goodness.

4.  I still need improvement on:   sleeping in, since I still get up at the crack of dawn, barking at dogs who walk by my turf, and making more noise than the parentals feel comfortable with when there is a creature in our back yard such as a possum or a squirrel (although the toy squirrel Auntie Chris brought last week has helped and I play with it every day).

When I was supposed to be sleeping last night I did hear Dad say I am becoming a very good dog, and I must be doing something right since the treats have been better than usual.

I want to thank everyone who follows me and my birthday wish is not so much for bones and treats but that each of you has a prosperous 2015.  I especially want to thank my fans in the 73 countries who follow me.  That is what I will wish for when I blow out the candle on my bone later this week!  It’s been quite chilly this week in Santa Monica and I’ve had to hide under the Auntie Tooter blanket more than usual but I’m sure she will like hearing that!

Happy 2015!

Post Christmas Visitor

IMG_3193So this year the parental units decided to stay home. They wanted to have a mellow Christmas. Honestly, I don’t think it was “mellow” as we all spent 4 days cleaning out all the closets, cabinets, and the garage. Dad claims you should clean out 50% of your “stuff” by the time you are 65. I’m not sure why they have to do it now since the parentals have at least a while before that time, but typically everything is organized and planned out at Casa de Perry. That is how we roll.

Yesterday, they decided to set me up with a “lady” friend. I did not have much luck with the Tutu as you might remember so I was hesitant, but since it was not really a date I thought it would be okay.

I’ve met Viva before at her house and now she came to my house while her family was out-of-town. Before she got here I was told ad nauseam that I needed to be a perfect gentlemen, which is code for “don’t be bossy and have manners.”

Let me just tell you this folks…from the moment she arrived she was bossy one. What is this with the bossy ladies people? She stole my toy and sat in my chair all within the first 10 minutes.

I was not going to have any of that so I took her toy and hid it outside. Then I came in and plopped myself on her bed. That will teach her. NOT…she just growled at me and then had the audacity to wag her tail in front of me and go rub up against Dad. He was giving her MY love, attention and affections. Game on Viva!

IMG_3287To top it off the parental’s decided to take this awkward prom photo. As you can see I was not impressed.

Next was mealtime. Yes, she was still here but I had to wait because she took her time while eating. All right, I will give it to her that she does have eating manners, and eats quite lady like which is not my cup of tea.

After a few words of encouragement we were playing outside and that was cool. Then Mom took her for a walk WITHOUT me and then told Dad she was the perfect walker unlike me who is always pulling – isn’t that what walks are all about?

Before long I was getting tired and realized that it was bedtime. WHAT…she is staying the night? Don’t get too excited folks about the sleepover. It was very I Love Lucy with separate beds. However, she did get to sleep closer to Dad’s side.

I was pretty tired but I was able to be a gentlemen. In the middle of the night The Viva stirred and Dad got up to take her out. It was really cold but I wanted to make sure she was OK in the dark so I got up and went out with her.

The next day she was much sweeter to me and we played nicely in the sandbox. We even hung out together and had snacks side by side. AND when another dog walked by the house she joined me at barking at them – how’s that for camaraderie?  I was actually a little sad to see her go but since Mom is friends with her Mom I’m sure I’ll see her soon enough.

So there you have my Christmas “vacation” in a nutshell. At least we were all together and that’s what holidays are about, right?

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and please remember to be safe on New Years Eve.

It’s been quite chilly for Santa Monica the last few days and I may need to start wearing a sweater so send me some cashmere if you can spare it.

Almost Christmas

IMG_3195The BIG stick in our living room with lights is entirely too tempting for me.  When the parentals get me irritated I just want to touch it and play with all the fun toys on it.  However, I did get busted with taking one of the little crystal things on the stick and Dad was quite upset and I got a time out.

Since it’s ALMOST Christmas – only 4 days and counting – I’m wondering about these pretty bags under the stick.

I’ve sniffed and looked and tried to open one but again the parentals are always on to me and I’m prevented from getting my mission accomplished.

I did get quite excited last night as Auntie Chris made a special visit to see me AND I got my own toy squirrel – also known as PITA.  She brought Dad her yearly brown bread with cream cheese but somehow I was not offered any – maybe next year.

I hear the post office is still open tomorrow so please send more gifts and treats as I have not had sufficient ones yet.  I guess I should be satisfied with less, especially since I’m much more fortunate than most so I’ll sign off for  now.

It was a pleasant 65 degrees in Santa Monica today and the rain has held up for a few days so Dad is happy with less mud on my paws.

Christmas barks from Perry!

Jingle Bell Land

FullSizeRenderI am SOOOO tired.  This is highly unusual folks but watching all these people running around buying strange colored boxes with odd little strings on them.  It’s strange enough we have this tree in our living room that has tiny attachments I am supposed to just “look at.”  What is that about?

However, I do occasionally do a “lean in” to the tree, which makes Dad goes insane since I  jingle those little things they hid on the tree.  But isn’t there a man who jingles with a red bucket?  I heard about the Salvation Army men who jingle, and I know the parentals are gathering their donations for the less fortunate.

What’s the use of just looking at a tree if you can’t smell it, crunch it or fetch it?  I’m not sure I know what this Christmas thing is all about yet.

It rained really hard this week, and the yard is a swampland.  I guess I better leave the tree alone because I got in enough trouble with bringing in my wet muddy paws all over the floor and sliding on the baseboards which gives Dad extra work.  Maybe Santa will overlook this one time offense.

All I know it’s dark early, I’m hungrier than ever, and maybe I have the holiday blues so please come and visit since guests always cheer me up.  Remember to bring treats since I have been told I am a bottomless pit whatever that means.

By the way, the temperature was a breezy 65 degrees.

Love
