I’m Taking Charge and Getting my Vitamins

IMG-20130323-00954Things have been sailing along great.  I continue to impress the parental units and believe I have mastered the skill of manipulation.  But hey, I am Perry the super dog who all love and find irresistible.

You all know  I have an aficionado for toilet paper, but my new skill is to get a roll and not destroy it or run with it, but go right up to mom and drop it in front of her feet.  I thought I was going to impress her and get a treat but that did not happen.  I was trying to outsmart her and say  “maybe I am ready for college?”  But no luck. She told me no treats for stealing toilet paper regardless of bringing it and doing the “drop.”  Oh well, maybe next time.

More importantly, since I write this healthy eating puppy blog I do know it is essential to include my daily regime of exercise, good food, nice people, rest and my vitamins.  Can you believe this morning the parental units forgot my vitamins?  I took it upon myself and I went into the kitchen and got the bottle right off the counter and what surprised them the most was that I opened the bottle.   Those big paws come in handy at times!

Finally, I continue to try and be a good boy and daily we work on my service dog training skills.  Today we went to the office to clean up after mom’s open house.  I was fairly good since I like the space.  I cannot wait to be able to go there more and see Mom’s patients.  Maybe I can become the office butler?  Wow knows, but you will be there first to know and I will make sure to tell the patients to exercise, eat healthy like me and take their vitamins!

Vacations Over and It’s Back to the Grind

photoI know, I know it has been a long time since I have graced your presence.  This time it’s the parental units’ fault – THEY went to an International Conference on Diabetes in Paris.  I was left, thank goodness in Los Angeles.  Can you imagine me on a plane for 11 hours?  Ouch!  That would definitely cramp my stretching needs.

Apparently Mom learned a lot of new things to help her patients but I don’t care all that much that – she should be going to Dog Conferences since my needs are way more important!

Anyway – while they were gone I got to play with some new friends and go on lots of walks which was pretty cool. But I was very happy to see them make it home.

Apparently I’m not being as good as when they left since I overheard Dad keep saying this is how it must be when kids come back from the grandparent’s house.  Let me tell you they have been on my case to practice all of my sits, stays and lay downs.  They have been way too “military” with me.  If I wanted to be like that I would have enrolled in the Marines.

Life around here has returned to busy with the units working all the time, school and people coming in and out…and that’s why I love the Dopart-Batchelor house.  It’s never a dull moment!

I’ve Already Broken my New Year’s Resolutions

Perry_NYday_13Who needs them anyway?  Resolutions were meant to be broken and I just could not help myself.  There was Dad’s shoes and the insoles  just sitting there waiting to be stolen – here I am gleefully running away with them.

It’s the best feeling in the world and I can really get a rile out of Dad.  I haven’t broken the coveting resolution yet but there was some tempting human food on the counter this evening as dinner was being prepared.  I’m not promising anything.  Isn’t it canine nature to steal AND covet?

Happy New Year from Perry

IMG-20130101-00901I’m trying to start with a clean slate but it is SO hard for me.  There are 2 resolutions I can’t seem to conquer:

  1. Thou Shalt Not Steal my parent’s things
  2. Thou Shalt not Covet food from the counter

I know the high value things Mom and Dad need to use – phones, shoes, remote controls, tape measurements, the newspaper, toilet paper, and pens.  These are the items I frequently steal and run with.  The toilet paper has been hard to come by since they now close all the doors but the other items are usually in my sight. With all the lutein I get in my veggies my eyes are excellent which helps with spotting high value items.  That’s’ one those important nutrients humans and canines need or so I am told.

I can’t help myself with coveting all the food and look how TALL I am – it’s so much easier with my great height!

I hope you all have a Happy New Year.  Make sure to eat healthfully like me.  I look forward to hearing from all my friends who follow me!

I’m Just Trying to be Helpful

IIMG_3105t’s been raining here more than I like.  I know we need the rain and I admit I love water but it makes the yard muddy and since I don’t have all that much fur getting wet makes me cold.  We know I don’t like the cold and avoid it at all costs.  Dad was trying to clean up in the yard so I decided it was time for me to pull my weight (all 80 pounds) so I followed him around trying to be helpful but I was a little disruptive and Dad put the lease on me.  It was okay since we got to play a little bit.

photoLater I thought I would save him time and check his email for him.  Since I don’t know how to type it was challenging but checking counts, right?  Things have finally calmed down but I have yet to be invited to the new office but I may get to make my debut next week.  I’m told I have to “behave” as if that counts.  Slowly I am learning how to be a civilized dog – I do drop things when I’m cornered, I did bring the mail to Dad yesterday when he asked me to, and today when Dad left to go to work I went in the crate all by MYSELF without having to be told to – imagine that?  I may turn out to be a good dog after all…

My Report Card

Last week was really fun.  I got to go to Doggie Day Camp a few extra days since Dad was really busy with getting Mom’s new office lease together.  I love the nice lady Francine who works there – she’s my side kick and helps keep me focused.

I guess I have to behave better since Dad got special permission for me to be at Mom’s new office, since after all,  I am supposed to be a service dog.  I do know how to wait at the door before going out.  I’m much better at coming when I’m called – especially if there is a treat involved.  My current favorite treat is Paul Newman’s Salmon and Sweet Potato.  Mom always gets me to come in if I get home of those.

I am really good when Dad gives me a bath.  I like going in my crate at night, and Mom covers me up with a blanket since I get really cold.  After all, I don’t have one of those high maintenance coats to keep me warm.  I guess that’s why I need so much exercise.  Good thing I don’t live in New York….

I’m Good in the Kitchen

It’s been a challenging week.  Dad has been working on training me and trying to make me wait, drop it, and respect other people’s belongings but sometimes I “forget” and steal things I’m not supposed to.

Dad is cooking today and I love it, and am generally good since I may get extra treats from anything that gets dropped or forgotten about.  But sometimes I still need to supervise by surfing the counter to make sure everything is going as it should.

Dad does NOT like me micro managing his kitchen projects.

I don’t really “drop it”

I’m supposed to “drop” whatever I have in my mouth when my parents say “drop it’ but I’m really not very good at it, unless I want to.  Dad has worked with me for hours on this but somehow it hasn’t really clicked in yet.

Auntie Chris and Audrey came over last night and fawned all over me – I loved it!  They even took a picture of me here and sent it to Mom – don’t I look handsome?  I still have not quite figured out why I need to wear the lease inside – something about that training they are still trying to do…
